Default Anyone else received calls from local DEA for contributions?

We get calls from the local police all the time asking for donations, and some have been found to be scams. Today I received a call on my cell phone allegedly from someone in the state's DEA department (Indians) asking for donations to help get all the "drug dealers locked up". I'm in Indiana and the guy on the phone sounded like someone from the Jerky Boys...upfront & pushy and when I said we've already maxed out our donations for the year he just hung up.

The scary part, hopefully just a coincidence, is that I contacted my local guy this morning about getting some new stuff. If anyone has any experience with them I'd like to hear it!

"Help an old man understand..."

Heh - I knew as soon as I hit the "submit" button that my question was too vague. Sorry!

My question was regarding the DEA and calling for donations. When the police/firefighters call for donations, they're very professional and courteous. This guy just sounded like a stereotypical east coast guy named "Vinny"...had a New York accent and sounded rude and very unprofessional. We have also had local scams around here with people calling and asking for donations for local police departments and this felt more like a scam than anything else.

There was a caller ID number and it was from a location about an hour outside of my city, and it wasn't just a friend messing with me (I'm closer to being an old man myself than being a young kid).

I hope I'm just being paranoid and hope it was just a coincidence but it certainly made me pause...if my guy has ever been picked up I'm sure my number is listed in his cell phone or his records. This scenario is my fear and maybe it was an agent just calling everyone on that list, pretending to ask for donations.

You should have said, "Hold on a sec. My joint is about to go out..." and hung up on him.

I'm in So Cal., and I got the same call yesterday on my office line and then again this morning on my cell. Yesterday I just told them that I couldn't help them at this time and hung up, Of course like any good telemarketer he was still yappin when I hung up. This morning I was feeling a little froggy so I told them that I couldn't afford to contribute because all my disposable income was tied up in the Legalization of Marijuana, and that I would be more than happy to help out as soon as that happens. The guy actually chuckled a little before he hung up.

Cool

Send 'em an e-mail and ask them if they solicit telephone donations. If not, I bet they would be real interested in that phone number. Impersonating a federal officer is a pretty serious crime in this country.

Seems like everything is a pretty serious crime when ya get the Feds working the case..........

Especially......
