Default SARSfest and Legalization

Although some may not have realized it, pro-legalization people just had one of the most effective demonstrations ever. Yup, SARSfest in Toronto!

Open up any Canadian newspaper, and I'll guarantee that you'll find at least one, and most likely many more, references to the huge amounts of pot that were smoked at Downsview on Wednesday. While you're doing this, take note of the number of arrests made at the event; 21, and most of these were for drunken behaviour, the remainder for theft and other minor infractions.

So for all the critics of legalization in Canada, this is one big resounding kick in the ass, because it proves that society is not going to break down if we all smoke a little pot. In fact, you could say that things become more orderly when people are high, and I'm sure the cop we got a picture with while toking would agree with this...

Think of how much money, time, and effort were saved by not arresting people for marijuana. The cops we talked to were already working 12 hour shifts, and to force them to discipline law abiding concert-goers for dried plants would have made it even harder.

Hopefully all events like this in Canada will continue with the acceptance of pot. It could add a lot to our country, and force the prohibitionists to justify their unfounded fears about legalization.

For those that didn't go and lived in the area, you missed one of the greatest occasions of Canadian pot events. It felt incredible to walk around toking without that nagging fear of gaining a criminal record...

YES LARMER! too bad we didn't meet up there

Anyways, yeah... I got there at about 8 in the morning, and toked my way untill around noon... I felt bad for Kathleen Edwards though, as nobody clapped for her (except me). All of the artists were pro-pot too, and there were alot of jokes about it. Even the old ladies beside me were toking.

I was paranoid at first, but then i decided that i didn't care and toked as i pleased.

My favourites were acdc and Kathleen Edwards, and although La Chicane had a very positive message in their songs, nobody really understood them seeing as they were in french. I also liked eating ribs at midnight, and how I passed out as soon as i sat down on a seat during the ride home. The chicks flashing were also a plus

It did get scary though, at one point the cops left, and left the area between the two barriers unguarded, and people started to jump from barrier to barrier to get closer, but the people on my side didn't like that too much and started pushing people back.

All in all, it was an experiance i'll never forget

What are some of your highlights?

It was an awesome show ... really hot though ... but definately an expereince, to say the least.

Kathleen Edwards, Flaming Lips and Blue Rodeo needed a much longer set. The 15 minutes they had didn't allow them to display all their amazing talent.

... and I was clapping as well ... so that makes two for Kathleen!
