| Although some may not have realized it, pro-legalization people just had one of the most effective demonstrations ever. Yup, SARSfest in Toronto! ![]() Open up any Canadian newspaper, and I'll guarantee that you'll find at least one, and most likely many more, references to the huge amounts of pot that were smoked at Downsview on Wednesday. While you're doing this, take note of the number of arrests made at the event; 21, and most of these were for drunken behaviour, the remainder for theft and other minor infractions. So for all the critics of legalization in Canada, this is one big resounding kick in the ass, because it proves that society is not going to break down if we all smoke a little pot. In fact, you could say that things become more orderly when people are high, and I'm sure the cop we got a picture with while toking would agree with this... Think of how much money, time, and effort were saved by not arresting people for marijuana. The cops we talked to were already working 12 hour shifts, and to force them to discipline law abiding concert-goers for dried plants would have made it even harder. Hopefully all events like this in Canada will continue with the acceptance of pot. It could add a lot to our country, and force the prohibitionists to justify their unfounded fears about legalization. For those that didn't go and lived in the area, you missed one of the greatest occasions of Canadian pot events. It felt incredible to walk around toking without that nagging fear of gaining a criminal record...
