Default The Best Way to Change Minds

I think the best way to change people's minds on the pot issue is to have them smoke weed. Now I know this is really idealistic, and I'm sure telling someone if you smoke this you'll realize it should be legal, in 90 percent of cases isn't going to get someone to smoke weed, but its been my experience that this is true.

I, personally believed every word of the DARE bs I was fed in the 5th grade, until I actually started smoking reefer. Even after the first couple times I wondered if this would make me stupid or if next I'd be doing cocaine. After awhile, though, I started to realize I wasn't experiencing any of the negative side effects I was told I would, except the munchies, and decided to do some research into the subject, in order to find out what this substance I was putting into my body actually did. After much reading I began to realize, hey this drug doesn't cause any of these horrible inflictions the government claimed it would.

From that point on I became much more skeptical of everything the government told me, especially when it came to marijuana. That's been my experience anyway, and I've seen the same effect with my brother and several of my friends, whi realized after using bud for an extended period of time didn't cause the damage we were told it would.

Therefore I feel that experiencing smoking ganja is likely the best way to influence one's opinion on the subject of legalization. Though I know its not plausible to expect every nonsmoker to agree to try, especially with the stigma around it, but with some it may be a way to change their preconceptions. Let me know what you think about this.

BTW - sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.

SkinnyP, I bet you'd love getting a warning for talking about off topic drugs, too.

But still...skinnyp is right. When you try weed, you notice the positive effects of weed. However, taking a few hits doesn't magically make you aware of the negative effects pot has on your body. Smoking people up might make them think they're pro-weed, but they won't really be pro-weed unless they have all the facts on it-and you get this from reading, not from smoking.

My point is not that all of a sudden someone will realize hey mj ain't so bad after all, but when someone uses it for an extended period of time and realize it doesn't do all the bad things you're told it does then their minds' will change. At least that's my opinion. I do agree reading is the best way to learn about mj.

i think if someone who has been anti-drug all they're life then all of a sudden smoke pot, they wont be magically for it. they would pick out all the bad things and probably get really paranoid that they are gonna be arrested or be permanentely messed up.

Default The truth ...

... will always remain the best way to change minds.

Like WNB stated earlier, read; then read some more. Read not only about marijuana's effects on the human body but also read about the benefit and uses of products (such as paper, fuel, food and clothing and much more) that can be made from hemp.

Be sure to keep an open mind and to regard both sides of the story.

Whoever said "the truth shall set you free" was onto something.

A lot of people indulge in marijuana, many more do not, and that's okay. No one really wants to force someone to use marijuana just to "get them to change their mind."

It's okay for people to be against drugs, until they want people locked away for it.

my point was not that shoving weed down someone's throat will make someone say hey this drug is ok. Instead I meant to say people who experience marijuana more than a couple tiems, more so o a regular basis will realize it isn't evil like you are told it is. from there that person doubts the crediblitlity of such reports and in my case, and many others, will look the effects up and discover they were right to decry the goevernment's claims. I don't expect someone who smokes weed two or three times to thjink it will cure all of man's ailments, but if someone has experienced smoking a fair amount of times they are liekly to change their mind.

Okay, I'll concede that your point, though not always true, is generally true.
