It's certainly a step in the right direction!
100 grams is a shitload, think about it, my friend who smokes every day uses 2 grams a week, so 100 should last him over a year.

Check your math, actually it would last him under a year
I also suspect that most people who smoke everyday use more than 2 grams a week.
Where does your friend get his weed? Someone still has to break the law..

Wow, what state are you in? I'll be sure to never go there.

Around here, the most that ever happens while smoking marijuana is a debate. Philosophy, current issues, the government, documentaries, and video games is all we talk about while smoking reefer. If someone is addicted to weed, they have a real weak mind. I haven't smoked in over a month. Hell, I almost never smoke anymore.

Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults," is the first federal decriminalization legislation introduced in 24 years. Frank's pending bill, co-sponsored by presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), seeks to eliminate all federal penalties prohibiting the personal use and possession of up to 100 grams (3 1/2 ounces) of marijuana. Under this measure, adults who consume cannabis would no longer face arrest, prison, or even the threat of a civil fine. The bill also eliminates all penalties for the not-for-profit transfers of up to one ounce of pot. All are encouraged to write their representatives in support of this important legislation via NORML's online advocacy system.

Not if you only use white widow. (More specifically, white queen, the strongest variaty of white widow.) He only smokes really good chronic, I've never seen him with anything less potent than Kush, and even then it wasn't his, it was his brothers.

Ok, he won't have weed for 2 weeks in that year.
Anyway, it would become legal to sell up to an ounce of MJ, and if the person makes a profit, he can say: "It is to cover expenses."

Don't be mistaken.

"The Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act of 2008, introduced by Congressman Barney Frank (D-Mass.), would eliminate the threat of arrest and prison for the possession of up to 3.5 ounces of marijuana and/or the not-for-profit transfer of up to one ounce of marijuana. It would not affect federal laws prohibiting selling marijuana for profit, importing and exporting marijuana, or cultivating marijuana. It also would not affect any state or local laws and regulations."

If you think you can just tell the feds you weren't selling it for a profit, you're very wrong. This bill is to decriminalize pot; so all the people like me who got a year of probation and 1000$ fine for possession of a few grams of pot won't have to go through all that bullshit. Nothing more, nothing less.

Why only an eighth? Shouldn't it be at least a quarter? Cops always weigh the bag in with the weed, which would put you over everytime. I think personal should be up to an ounce. Conservatively.

My big concern about legalization is we are so eager to see legislation that we'll get behind anything. Though I'd love to see this act pass, I bet we could do better.

I think you need to read it again.. 3.5 ounces possession, as in, almost a quarter pound. 1 ounce non-profit transfer. This is NOT to legalize marijuana. It decriminalizes it, so responsible adults don't get fined and incarcerated for smoking herb.
