Well, I have not seen it here in my area. I don't know where you live. I am currently under the care of 4 different doctors, General Practitioner, Gastroenterologist, Rheumatoligist, and Opthalmologist. Not one of them has made me sign a pain agreement, and I have been prescribed pain medications by my General Practitioner and Rheumatologist as well.

I think this agreement you are talking about is used mostly with pain management clinics/doctors. Doctors that deal with pain and/or dispense pain medications, including narcotics. These doctors don't want addicts trying to fake illnesses to get narcotics prescriptions.

Hi all,

I work in a medical related career and want to clear up a couple of misconceptions in this thread.

1. Drug use can have insurance implications. As another poster said, admitting marijuana smoking probably won't result in denial of care in the present, but could lead to other issues down the road. For example, one could have problems getting new insurance due to pre-existing condition (cannabis abuse, dependence, induced disorder, etc) in their medical history.

2. In the US, you cannot be drug tested without your consent. It may be mandatory, but ASFAIK, it cannot be done secretly. Its like every single other medical procedure or test. Informed consent is required.

Thank you so much for pointing this out also. This is another reason I keep my marijuana usage to myself. I know it would do me no good to reveal the fact that I use marijuana as medicine, especially since I do not live in a medical marijuana state. I have medical problems that require me to see doctors on a routine basis. I can't afford to lose my doctors or health insurance.

Exactly. I know none of my doctors have drug tested me. One, because they never made me sign a form. Two, because I am positive I would have heard something if they had.

I'm here in michigan they are cracking down on the illegal sale of script drugs like hydrocodone and such. Several doctors now ask for urine. You do not have to give it but if you refuse he can refuse to give your certain pain meds.......b

They do this in WV also. My mother-in-law gets certain pain meds and has to be tested to make sure she's the one actually taking the medication.
