Default Bunch of BS

I just read an article about how marijuana increases depression....how is this possible if it helps me and other people here on these forums with depression/bi-polar?...what do you all think?...and do you think there is a future where MJ will be used to treat depression/bi-polar/anxiety?...

From what I've read, and from listening to acquaintances who suffer such maladies, it seems to be an individual matter.
If someone who is suffering were to ask me whether or not I thought cannabis would help them I would say 'quite possibly' but it doesn't for everyone.
And I would recommend they start out slow and easy...

I don't find that it exactly helps or hinders my depressions. When I am extremely depressed I usually don't smoke because it doesn't do anything for me and is just a waste of time, no point. The combination of good weed and severe depression over a long period of time can cause some pretty intricate paranoia for me also. When treating depression with meds it is probably a good idea to not smoke until you are famliar with the effects of the medication and have found the most effective option.

anyway IMO MJ doesn't increase or decrease depression.

Definitely. A friend of mine always smokes a bong when she gets depressed/anxious... She says it always calms her down, and in the case of depression, allows her to sit and really explore her feelings logically, without her emotions taking over her.

I would say I'm exactly the opposite. When I am really upset about something I hate smoking. Marijuana tends to amplify my emotions and feelings, whether they're negative or positive. Thus, when I'm upset and smoke, feelings go from bad to worse. I tend to over think my problems when I'm high, which is fine by me. I'm glad that I can work out my problems sober, and when I smoke after snapping out of my depression it is always sweet.

Finding a drug that works for depression in a given individual is a trial-and-error process. If you go to a psychiatrist, he'll prescribe what he thinks is most likely to work, let you try it for a few weeks, and, if it doesn't work, put you on another med. You repeat this process until you find what works best and has the fewest negative side effects.

I've never found that marijuana is an effective antidepressant. I get a heightened mood while I'm high, but nothing has changed when I come down again. For me, and most people, being stoned all of the time is neither desirable nor feasible. People who use a lot of marijuana often become depressed when they're not high, so for an already depressed person, this would not be any kind of solution at all.

well i am not stoned all the time...i do find that MJ helps with my emotions..and somehow allows me to control them..whether they be good or bad...being in a different, more relaxed state of mind helps with my depression/anxiety...

As much as it disgusts me to say so, sterbo's post is 100% correct.
