Angry Statistics...

430,000 people die from tobacco in the United States every year alone. 0 deaths have been attributed to marijuana use. Enough said.

man i want to want to quit smoking cigs so bad. i have to start sooner or later i just...i dont know. they suck dont start smoking cigs. pot smoke is more harsh. but i dont care, its pot.

also i have read that its not the carcinogens(sp) by them selves, its the readioactive elements in the tobacco smoke that acts as enablers/progressors so the carcinogens. but hey, fact or fiction, i dont really know just some info that i have collected.

peace,

Ding Ding, Sativa hippie hit the nail on the head. In addition to the over 600 chemicals that are added to ciggerettes after the tobacco is harvested, Tobacco, because of Government Regulations, are fertilized with a fertilizer high in Radium. Which breaks down into a radioactive lead isotope and pulonium 210, which become airborn and attach themselves to the little hairs on the tobacco leaves. These leaves are then harvested and cut into ciggerettes. When a person smoke a cig, they release the particles into the air, and then draw them into the lungs. I believe the exposure total for a pack a day smoker for 40 years is somewhere on the order of 67 - 124 rads. The halflife of these two particles is approx 22 years. That means 22 years after you quit smoking, you will have half the radioactive exposure as you did when you quit.

Smoking ciggerettes inside increases this exposure dramatically. And smoking ciggerettes that the tobacco is grown in another country can almost halve the amount of radioactive isotopes you breath into your lungs.

It is important when talking about lung cancer and carcinogens to remember that smoking ciggerettes will NOT give you lung cancer, but it WILL increase your risk of lung cancer. If you are already not genetically predisposed to lung cancer, you don't have anything to worry about. This is how some people can smoke 3 packs a day until they are 90 and die peacefully in their sleep.

Its all about the RISK of cancer. This is a very important distinction.

There are studies out there that "prove" that marijuana has 7 times as much carcinogens as tobacco, however the study compared the leaves of the cannabis plant to the leaves of the tobacco plant. This is inaccurate considering that most marijuana smokers use the bud of the female flower, and do not smoke the leaves. The bud contains roughly 1/3 or the carcenogens as the leaf of the plant.

So that 7x more carcenogenic just went down to twice as carcenogenic when you compare the smokeable product of both plants. THEN you look at the fact that marijuana is not smoked nearly as often as tobacco is through the course of a typical day. Even a heavy pot smoker that fries up 6 joints a day is below the average 1 pack a day ciggerette smoker.

In fact, people who smoke pot along with ciggerettes tend to live 2 to 5 years longer than a person smoking the same amount of ciggerettes solely. This is due to marijuana's effects of dialating the small tubes in the lungs and of making you cough, which helps clean out pollutants from the lungs, including ciggerette tars.

My advice, quit smoking and stick to pot.

Wish I could live up to my own advice.... I am trying....

Peace.

Man, whenever I think about quitting smoking, I just think about the times when I'm baked and out of cigarettes. Nothing better than a cigarette when you're drunk or stoned.
