| About a month and a half ago I had a horrible trip, where I thought I was dying and/or dead. I was aware that I was "tripping" and was trying to get out of it but at the same time I couldn't distinguish myself from reality. After I smoked, I went to lay down and when I closed my eyes everything went black and I felt like I just died, so I jumped up and it was just pure chaos from there. It wasn't laced because the person with me didn't trip. I was told it could of been a "hospital high" or something like that from anxiety. Anyways, now almost always, when I close my eyes, I imagine that same black fade when I thought I was dying and my heart starts beating fast. And when I think of death and the concept of reality, my heart starts beating fast and I start to feel confused and it feels like I have schizophrenia. This is really hurting my life. I feel like I need to get professional help, I feel like I'm "mentally ill" now. More info: I smoked since then, and all those times I either felt a little bit of fright or I felt completely out of it and thought I was out of reality too. so now, I'm not going to smoke for a very long time. |

| Sounds like you're one of those people who has marijuana-induced panic attacks. If I were you, I wouldn't smoke.

| I agree. You didn't have a "trip" a month and a half ago. You had a panic attack. A panic attack is a severe anxiety reaction. If you're getting recurring panic attacks without using any more marijuana, I'd suspect that you've got some sort of anxiety disorder and should see a doctor. Marijuana doesn't "cause" anxiety disorders, but, if you've got a latent one, getting too high will get it to manifest. People without anxiety disorders can have panic attacks under the influence of marijuana, but they don't get recurring ones when they aren't high. Generally, marijuana and anxiety disorders are not a good mix. OTOH, I've heard a lot of people say that it relieves their anxiety. Reactions to weed are extremely idiosyncratic. A lot depends on your personal chemistry, your mental state, your surroundings, and how much you use.

| Thanks for the responses. Do you recommend anything to prevent or lessen the severity of the flashbacks? i.e stop smoking for a good while, see a psychiatrist, special routines. |

If I am in an uncomfortable or unusual environment and I vape, it is asking for trouble. Just this week I experienced a horrible anxiety attack at a party because there were so many unknowns and I wasn't comfortable (new house, new people, etc.)

| It sounds like you're still pretty green. I got some wicked paranoid attacks when i was young, usually if i was in unfamiliar surroundings. Set and setting is everything. Now the only time i get panicky is when a cop is following me when I drive, but that happens when I'm not high either. |

| I had a couple panics attack in the beginning.. brought on by smoking too much and being in overwhelmingly stressful scenarios. I don't get them anymore. If you're going to do it again, make sure you are in a comfortable setting and only have a little bit. See how you feel. You can always smoke more but you can't smoke less. |

If you're having panic attacks when you're not smoking, smoking until you've settled that would probably be a very bad idea.
