I was toking away today and remembered that I hadn't been here in a while, then I caught a glimpse the glazed redness of my eyes, and wonder why the hell it does that.

Anyone actually know the real reason that your eyes get red when you smoke?

there are myths and legends about it and everyone has their opinions, but I don't think I've ever heard a scientific response...

A chemical in marijuana relaxes the tiny veins in your eyes so they expand making them more noticable. I believe....

Yup. Marijuana dilates your blood vessels, including those in your eyes.

its known that when MJ is smoked some of the smaller blood vessels in the body dilate, but its not know if it is caused by THC or another chemical.
my eyes are kinda wrecked from contacts, when i wear contacts and smoke weed my eyes get so dry, which in turn causes redness. Even when Im not wearing contacts my eyes get dry when smoking.

I think the smoke also has something to do with it, because when I go to punk shows and kids smoke cigarettes like crazy my eyes get red from that.

Stoners are reputed to have low blood pressure, we bleed faster when we're stoned (lucky i didn't bleed when i got my eyebrow pierced... i was really, really high, and i forgot about bleeding) , all because we relax, the blood vessels dilate, just like everyone has mostly said.

Oddly enough, I don't really get red eye. My eyes usually feel dry if I don't put eye-drops in, however, so I sometimes do, which may prevent it, but even when I don't, my eyes don't actually get blood-shot. I realize that this has contributed pretty much nothing to the discussion, but has anyone else experienced the same?

1) THC dilates the capillaries in your eyes.

2) Smoke (any kind) is irritating and will make your eyes red.

3) Marijuana dries out your mucus membranes, irritating the eyes and making them red.

I've been studying the effects of marijuana for 40 years and have never come across anything about marijuana inhibiting blood clotting.
