| After writing a few research papers on the topic of marijuana and its medical abilities I have come to the realization that there have been thousands of studies done on marijuana. Because of this it makes it fairly easy to find sources of information that point out the positive effects of marijuana. I feel like I have thought of a great idea to spread awareness of the medical capabilities of marijuana, through community research and publication. My idea: Each week we focus on gathering as much information as we can about a single disease that marijuana can help with. We can publish this information in an online blog complete with pictures and links to the research articles, and plenty of peer reviewed sources of information. How would it work? Anybody that has access to a database with scientific or medical journals (college students and others) can search through databases and find articles supporting marijuana as a treatment for the specific disease we are investigating that week. These people can then submit the articles that they found along with a brief description of the research done and conclusions drawn by each article as a reply to this post. At the end of the week we can then write a blog article and publish it online. We can work as a team to use social web browsing tools like "StumbleUpon" and "Digg" to bring our research to the forefront of the minds of those who use these tools. For our first article I suggest we allow 2 weeks to gather the data and write the article. I suggest we tackle cancer the first week. We need to investigate the research done on: -Marijuana and Chemotherapy induced nausea -Marijuana and its ability to kill cancer cells -Studies that have found no link between marijuana use and the development of cancer -Studies that look at marijuana's ability to increase the quality of life of cancer patients by its psychoactive properties -Any other research showing how marijuana helps cancer patients Research tips: When searching through databases it is usually more helpful to use the term cannabinoid instead of marijuana. The government only funds studies that are looking for the negative effects of marijuana, however cannabinoids (the chemicals that give marijuana its medical properties) can be sold by the pharmaceutical companies and therefore research grants are much easier to obtain. So what do you think? Do you want to help legalize marijuana for medical purposes? I feel that the internet is our best hope for freedom from government propaganda. Lets take advantage of this new medium to convey information to the masses on! We are intelligent capable individuals, lets show the world that Marijuana is Medicine! |
