Ive been smoking weed for only a few months, but just in the passed few days ive notice a phlegmy, mucusy cough. I dont feel sick, like i have the flu. I've had it for about 4 days now. Is this from smoking. Also, what can i do about it?

i dont think that its from the pot. you probably have the flu.

That is most common in cigarette smokers, but if you smoke often enough I suppose its possible to have that problem.

I've had it for several months...i'm still alive. I'll be taking a break here soon to let my lungs heal though.

I smoke the evil legal smokes and always have that; especially during the winter. I hate it! I HAVE to have a big glass of OJ in the morning to get all the nasty **** out of my throat. about every other hour i have to give a big ass cough to get this dark green **** out of there. its nasty. i wish i never started smoking

But yeah, it can happen with weed, too. Smoking anything is bad for your system. just don't smoke as much and maybe switch to a bong; the bong might help out a little.

Yes, that phlegmy cough is your lungs trying to keep themselves clean and clear.

If it is a "productive" cause (which means you get crap in your mouth you have to spit out) it should be clear or white...

What Iluvatar is spitting out would tell me he needs to see the Doc for a sputum culture and a chest xray. Green and yellow are signs of infection!

Pot is also an expectorant. Like the over the counter expectorant cough syrups you take when you are sick with a chest cold (in that case you are taking a drug called Guafenisin) your lungs will use the chemicals in pot (cannabinoids) to increase the secretion of bronchial fluids (mucous) and the lungs will expell (expectorate) this mucous along with any irritants in the lungs, out by coughing.

Lastly Pot is a broncho-dilator. Certain cannabinoids, mostly THC, cause not only your blood vessels in your eyes to dilate (get bigger) and cause red-eye, but the spongey air pockets in your lungs (aveolar) to expand. Currently two comapies are working on a THC oral spray for asthmatics (GW Pharmaceuticals in the UK and Pharmos Corporation in Israel/distributed out of N.J., USA)
