My father is a neurologist who specializes in the treatment of Alzheimers and stroke-related illnesses. We were discussing Obama's cabinet on the way to dinner, and I brought up my disappointment with Dr. Sanjay Gupta as Secretary General, as he is against medical marijuana.

He proceeded to argue with me repeatedly. I need ammunition against him. Specifically, I need double-blind, placebo tests administered by very professional organizations.

He showed me Marinol and I at least caught him off guard on the argument. If we create a synthetic pill to treat illnesses, isn't that accepting the plant itself has properties? It especially surprised him that I could buy weed much cheaper for treatment than paying for Marinol pills.

I tried to search for studies on these forums and on google, but I was only able to find books and individual studies. I vaguely remember seeing a directory of studies for various illnesses.

Can anyone direct me to that/advise me on how to bring the battle?

It would be really awesome to see him prescribing marijuana for his MS patients in the future...

Let him know that there are many helpful natural chemical in the real plant. Marinol only has one (THC) And for double blind tests.. im sure they are out there... but maybe not as many as we would like .. this is why it need to be rescheduled as tests are not really allowed (or access to MJ is not allowed) Catch 22 cause we cant test what they wont let us test. Here is a current ruling DEA Rejects Order To Allow For Private Production Of Marijuana For FDA-Approved Research - NORML I think in Israel they have some good tests I have read about ... look into that maybe

Tell him that marinol is an attempt by the pharmaceutical companies to lock down the market and cash in on a natural substance.

Pot is a weed. If it were legal, high-potency strains could be grown on windowsills. There is no reason whatsoever to allow doctors, HMOs and big pharma to act as parasitic middlemen in this relationship.

Ask your father if he's in favor of nationalized health care. If he's not, then tell him that he should at the very least allow people to grow their own herbs. To do otherwise is immoral in the extreme.

Just leave copies of "The Lancet" around for him to read.
They've featured many articles that have helped MMJ, not through dogma, but good solid research.
