| I am 18 years old and have been smoking Cannabis for the past six months (for the most part on a daily basis). Before I began smoking weed I did some research on its effects on overall health and came to the conclusion that there were no significant health risks or negative effects other than the minimal damage done to the lungs which is to be expected with smoke inhalation. As an athlete I have yet to notice a negative effect since I began to smoke weed and I have actually improved my overall fitness significantly in the last six months. I do not attribute this improvement to smoking weed but I do not believe that it has hindered my progress either. I have for the most part been smoking worry free until recently when one of my Jiu-jitsu instructors told me that smoking weed can actually do more damage to your lungs than smoking cigarettes. At first this ludicrous statement lead me to believe that he had no knowledge on the subject and was originally misinformed in order to give him a negative outlook on Cannabis. When he showed me a few studies that supported this theory I began to question the validity of the research conducted. While, these studies haven't really changed my perception they have increased my curiosity on the actual health risks of smoking weed. Basically, I'm looking for clarification on the health risks attached to smoking weed and would also like to hear others input on the validity of these articles and medical journals. The ones listed below are from the medical publication BMJ.com. The site states that the journals are peer reviewed which leads me to think that there might be some ground to the theories expressed in some of the articles. While, the research does not seem to be concrete enough to actually establish a correlation between Cannabis and some of the serious illnesses listed in the articles below, it has increased my awareness and concern on the damage done to your body from smoking Cannabis. Any input would be greatly appreciated and thank you for reading my rather long post.
