| For the past five years or so I have suffered from sleep deprivation and migraines. I find that when I try to fall asleep that I can't stop my mind from racing and this would often lead to me developing insomnia and eventually migraines. The migraines seemed to stem from my lack of sleep and my insomnia got so bad that often times I would not be able to sleep for days with the longest period of time lasting for six days. Even during the nights that I was able to get to sleep it would only be after hours of laying awake and it would never be for a long period of time, 2-3 hours at the most. This was starting to have a negative effect on my school work and my relationships with others. I was not acting myself as I would often become easily agitated and had a hard time concentrating. I did not like the effect that this was having on my life and I went to my family doctor and told her about the issues that I had been having. She suggested that I take an over the counter antihistamine in Benadryl in order to help me fall asleep. After a month of taking Benadryl and seeing no improvement in my sleeping conditions I stopped taking Benadryl and eventually made another appointment with my family doctor. She refused to prescribe me anything else suggesting that I get more exercise and try to maintain a sleep schedule in order to train my body to fall asleep at a certain time. It's kinda hard to maintain a sleeping schedule when you can't fall asleep but somehow this concept was lost on my doctor. Then about six months ago a friend of mine who had been having similar issues told me that he had started smoking Cannabis and that it had helped with his insomnia. After his suggestion I tried smoking weed for the first time and found almost immediate results. Since I started smoking weed I now enjoy sleep and find that I feel refreshed and am able to enjoy life more. I know that this problem is nowhere near as serious as many of the illnesses that Cannabis is often prescribed for in Ontario such MS, AIDS, or Epilepcy but I would like to apply for a medicinal marijuana card as I believe I would fall under category 3 in Health Canada’s Medical Marijuana Legislation. Could someone please help me by providing some information on the application process in Ontario and if someone could possibly provide me a name of a doctor in Southeast Ontario more specifically the Niagara Region who is more open minded about the use of medical marijuana as I'm having a hard time finding a doctor to even take me serious after I suggest Cannabis as a possible solution to my problem. I'm finding that as soon as I bring up Cannabis that i'm no longer taken serious as if the doctor believes that the only reason why I’m even there is to get a card and not because there actually might be a problem. Any input would be greatly apprectiated. |
