I'm pretty sure you should be alright with steel, aluminum, copper, and brass you'd have problems with, but steel is cool.

Default bah

I'm pretty sure that inhaling either aluminum or copper fumes will give you lockjaw, I'm not sure which though. A lot of people smoke out of aluminum soda cans and are OK, so maybe it's copper.

I would be inclined to say that stainless would be appropriate. Stainless steel is used in surgical procedures, for body jewelry which is in contact with open skin as well as in the food preparation industry, wherein it is exposed to high heat, such as would be present while smoking.

Althuogh rumor (and I stress this is an unsubstantiated RUMOR) that galvanized steel is bad. If anyone has specifics on this, I would appreciate it if ya posted them here so I can familarize myself with them

Peace

Default well i'm not sure, but..

bad:
copper
aluminum
brass (still ok but its made from copper, so..)

so stainless steel should be ok.. as long as its not galvanized or coated with anything. the difference between normal steel and stainless steel, is stainless steel is mixed with another metal to resist rusting. i think anyway.

i'm not any expert, so i dont know exactly what happens to galvanized metals when they're heated, but since galvanized metals have been coated with another metal, i'd rather be safe than sorry and stay away from it.

just my two cents on things :]

Default No rumor Greenman

Galvanized steel is basically steel covered with zinc.
Zinc vaporizes at a fairly low heat, and the resultant outgassing can cause health problems.
Not smoker knowledge, I refer you to anby welders course book, section "Welding galvynized steel".
I am not certain at which temp. it does this, but personally, see no need to take the chance.
