Default My uncle was just diagnosed with MS? How useful is marijuana for it?

And can anybody give me a link to some MS organizations that advocate or support medical marijuana? If I send my family a link to NORML or something they will just write it off.

Thanks in advance.

This is good there is obviously a whole lot there I don't think actual studies would sway them I need actual endorsements from organizations and credible entities.

The first thing I thought about when reading your post was this clip from The Union.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

I'm not sure if this will help you however.

I am a bodyworker and also teach Yoga and I have seen firsthand the difference MJ can make for people with MS. While it will not cure the disease it often makes it a lot easier to move and stretch and feel better in one's body. Sometimes dramatically so.
That said I doubt you can convince your uncle if those studies aren't enough. After all they were conducted by reputable organizations! Mainstream MS groups are going to push their own drugs. And yes NORML has a little booklet about MJ and MS.

You will need to take the time to read the studies. The endorsement is the organization who published the study and those (for example the Journal of Neurology) carry weight.

If that seriously isn't enough information to sway someones opinion, then that just blows my mind. Where gonna have to hear the words come from Jesus Christs mouth before everyone takes it seriously lol. Of course it would be reported that Satan came to us in the form of Jesus and told us that.

I have chron's and the orginizations like "Chrons and Colitis foundation of America (CCFA)" all get paid by the drug companies to push there drugs on there websites and magazines. They also have come out and said Marijuana makes things worse (putting it in the same category as cig smoke). Yet a few million people disagree. So im %100 sure the same bullshit goes with MS.

sorry for going a bit off the MS topic.

Somebody who is already skeptical about medical marijuana will not likely be swayed by any amount of scientific studies. Most of us are not scientists, and these things can be confusing. Also, think of how long the list would be if you listed all of the bullshit studies AGAINST medical marijuana.

Much more useful would be for me to be able to say "(Reputable person's name here) advocates for the use of medical marijuana for MS." Since writing the original post I found Montel Williams which is helpful, but it would be better if I had an actual medical foundation.

Say yes to Michigan, and all the other fine medical marijuana states.
Quote:
The People of the State of Michigan enact:

1. Short Title.
This act shall be known and may be cited as the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act.
2. Findings.
Sec. 2. The people of the State of Michigan find and declare that: (a) Modern medical research, including as found by the National Academy of Sciences' Institute of Medicine in a March 1999 report, has discovered beneficial uses for marihuana in treating or alleviating the pain, nausea, and other symptoms associated with a variety of debilitating medical conditions.

(b) Data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Uniform Crime Reports and the Compendium of Federal Justice Statistics show that approximately 99 out of every 100 marihuana arrests in the United States are made under state law, rather than under federal law. Consequently, changing state law will have the practical effect of protecting from arrest the vast majority of seriously ill people who have a medical need to use marihuana.
(c) Although federal law currently prohibits any use of marihuana except under very limited circumstances, states are not required to enforce federal law or prosecute people for engaging in activities prohibited by federal law. The laws of Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Vermont, Rhode Island, and Washington do not penalize the medical use and cultivation of marihuana. Michigan joins in this effort for the health and welfare of its citizens.
3. Definitions. Sec. 3. As used in this act:
(a) "Debilitating medical condition" means 1 or more of the following:
(1) Cancer, glaucoma, positive status for human immunodeficiency virus, acquired immune deficiency syndrome, hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Crohn's disease, agitation of Alzheimer's disease, nail patella, or the treatment of these conditions. (2) A chronic or debilitating disease or medical condition or its treatment that produces 1 or more of the following: cachexia or wasting syndrome; severe and chronic pain; severe nausea; seizures, including but not limited to those characteristic of epilepsy; or severe and persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to those characteristic of multiple sclerosis.
I hope everything works out between you and your uncle. That diagnosis is a hard thing to accept, just let him know you want to help if you can.
good luck
