I'm currently 17, turning 18 in March.

I live in Pennsylvania.

I was wondering, if I moved to a state when I get older that supports medical marijuana, would insomnia and being bi-polar be enough to get a card?

I ask, not trying to "cheat the system" to get my free card, but because marijuana changed my life for the better and helped me so much with things I struggled with for years.

At night I have racing thoughts, dealing with past drug use, family problems, and sometimes, suicidal thoughts. I used to be very depressed, and without marijuana, I probably still would be.

However this hasn't happened in a very, very, VERY long time because I have turned into a daily smoker.

Along with the sleeping fix, it helps my mood swings. I find that if I smoke on a daily basis I am happy so much of the time - not because I'm high, because a lot of the time due to tolerence I'm not high, I just feel...good? It's a weird thing to describe. Even when I'm not "happy", I am never upset, sad, depressed or angry, because smoking leaves me at this stage of neutrality as I call it, where I don't feel anything really - which in itself makes me happy I suppose. There were times in the past few years where something would make me really, really happy, and then 5 minutes later I would almost be in tears for no reason.

A therapist, a psychiatrist, and 5 different medications later (btw...bipolar medication is such a joke. Abilify and Seroquel were given to me, as well as a lot of other kids who were in the same hospital as me, and for practically ANYTHING - kid is too hyper? Abilify. Depressed? Abilify. Anger problem? Abilify. Too sad? Abilify) I picked up smoking. Things in my life have changed for the better 100 times over.

I don't have Cancer or any life threatening diseases, nor any that cause me serious pain on a daily basis, but smoking really does make everything better, and I would love to not have to worry about getting caught just because I'm trying to fall asleep at night.

In California that would surely be sufficient. The card is not free though. Between the prescribing doctor and the yearly fee to the almost bankrupt state, you're looking at about 300 bucks. Proof of state residency is also required.

i smoke 24/7 too, and i am also BIPOLAR. but honestly, sometimes i feel like being bipolar puts me on an intellectual level above most others. i kinda see it as a gift now that i've learned to embrace it. if u wanna talk more about it, email me at fdmendez@gmail.com. one of my friends is bipolar too, and so is his dad, who's on tons of meds. im pretty sure all those meds are messing him up worse. i feel so abd for anyone on mood meds. my xgf used to be on tons of meds too... im pretty sure she'll be fucking nuts in 10 years. ive never seen anyone on mood meds get better.

and you are spot-on that bipolar can't be treated with medication. wheni was on antidepressants, i was hating life. i thought about suicide daily even though i didnt want to die. so weird. i dont recommend mood-altering drugs for anyone ever. i think it's stupid that the world of psychology and psychiatry can't see the huge amounts of damage it's doing to the public. with or without weed, i'd rather avoid mood altering meds.

on the other hand, i also have ADD, and i find methylphenidate (ritalin) helps a ton with getting shit done on a day to day basis. but i wouldnt recommend that to anyone under age too. i started using methylphenidate earlier this year cause my caffeine intake was getting too ridiculous. i use the daytrana patch instead of a pill and it works wonders. weed works with controlling ADD too, and it's what i used in my first 3 years of college instead of daytrana. whats funny about that is some of my teachers knew i'd come to class really stoned, but my grades were always great and i often outperformed most others in the same class.

as for the med card, i got mine for depression back when i thought i was depressed, but bipolar works too. hell, back pain is a legit reason in cali, where i live.

btw, as one bipolar person to another, i srongly recommend you search "bipolar or waking up" on youtube and google. it will blow your mind.
