Cannabis could have benefit for older people

Cannabis may strengthen bones in older people, despite research to suggest it does the opposite in younger users.

New research into the drug show that the effect cannabis has on bone density massively differentiate depending on the age of the smoker. And it could be that if taken in later life, it will protect against osteoporosis.

The results were uncovered by a team at the University of Edinburgh who compared the drug's effects on mice.

Osteoporosis affects up to 30 percent of women and about 12 percent of men at some point in their lives.

The team found that cannabis can activate a molecule found naturally in the body that is key to the development of osteoporosis.

When the type 1 cannabinoid receptor (CB1) comes into contact with cannabis, it has an impact on bone regeneration.

But, until now, it was not clear whether the drug had a positive or negative effect.

would it be the food they eat after they toke? I mean my grandma used to eat a half an apple for lunch...and she would get full off that....

Now if you eat a half an apple for lunch, thats not right...its probably the ability to consume more food.

With bone density, more calcium is consumed after toking.
