| Ok after years of wanting it legal just so I could smoke without risking going to jail , I now got a problem that "hit home"!!!! My mom was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was told she has 6-8 months to live.................like all kids[47 yr old big kid] I don't want to lose my mom , and I don't want to watch her suffer.............so I need some answers from you good people , see she's been agianst it all her life , since she believes it caused me to lose good jobs ect.....she won't accept that "I refuse to work for anyone who wants to control what I do on my time" any way she say's it's illegal and being so she won't do it even , if it will save her or at least give her more time I read where they have known for 35 years that weed inhibbits the growth of certain cancer cell's pancreatic being one I've read it will help with chemo and radiation treatments I've read it is really helpfull with pancreatic cancer ![]() so what I'm hoping for is links to Dr. , test , ect.....that might change her mind or even give her hope.......basicly any "informed info"on the subject |

| If she is terminal, try talking to her doctor. Get his/her perspective on the subject. If your mother's doctor is not opposed to her using it when or if she needs it, then perhaps he could help educate your mother on the benefits of marijuana. |

| I'm really sorry to hear that. My father died a few years ago from pancreatic cancer and cancer in general runs in my family, lost three of four grandparents to various types of it. As far as I know pot isn't a direct treatment for it although I may have missed something but it is a decent treatment for some of what ails you due to the cancer. Mostly loss of appetite and weight loss. A quick web search turns up a couple of pages I'll link you to quick but all I did was google search for the terms "Pancreatic cancer marijuana", do the same or related searches and you should be able to find a lot more. And maybe better. This one discusses what seems most applicable for you right now. Pancreatitis treatment with marijuana- Jay R. Cavanaugh, Ph.D. And this one touches on what you might have been thinking about. The thing is though that it's one thing to say with injections or direct application to the cells it makes a difference, it's another to say a dilute or indirect application such as smoking it would make the same difference. We don't know that yet. Where I've read the studies themselves they always end just like this one did, it might lead to a treatment rather than it is one. If high doses and direct applications might be more effective we haven't got that part worked out yet, nor proved that low ones or indirect applications work at all, at least that I'm aware of. Can't hurt though, and it will help with appetite and such. Cannabinoids Induce Apoptosis of Pancreatic Tumor Cells via Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress-Related Genes -- Carracedo et al. 66 (13): 6748 -- Cancer Research I hope she beats the odds. Best of luck to you.

| Thank you I had found both of those , by the means you listed I/we live in Illinois , a non-medical state , so the dr.'s here know very little about treatment with weed so I guess I'm looking for a report or answer from a doctor in a medical state , that states clearly how it will help , what to expect ,doseage , ect..... I relize I'm not going to keep my mom alive with pot........DUh I just am hoping that I can get 2 things done 1.Improve quality of life for the time she has left..........I don't count being high as a improvement [ well I do but she won't!!!] 2. if it inhibbits the growth of the cancer , that maybe just maybe it will give us a extra day, week , hour with her I know there is no miracal cure , I know it's just a matter of time but damn it she's spent 47years keeping pain out of my life [like all parents do] so if I can help her in anyway , at any cost I will !!!!!! thanks in advance for any help |
