Recently I was put on the SSRI Luvox for day to day anxiety, 25mg a day. I am aware Serotonin Syndrome can occur when you take certain drugs while on an SSRI and I am having trouble figuring out which substances are safe to take while on SSRIs. I don't really consider this off topics discussion because I am asking if pot is safe in respect to SSRIs, and am not discussing the actual off topic substances but whether it is medically safe.

As for marijuana combined with SSRIs I have heard it intensifies it by a large amount and makes you really trip out. Can anyone confirm this?

No it wont. SSRI stands for Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. So basically it just blocks your serotonin receptors so if anything it would just make smoking suck.

Right but I have read from multiple sites that SSRIs have no negative impact on marijuana.

The the main thing you should do is never trip or eat brownies while using SSRIs. It will extend the trip twice as long (sometimes) and who the hell wants to be whacked out for days.. As for toking, you still get high and it doesn't suck..

I have to ask, if you are on a medication for anxiety, why are you still smoking marijuana? Marijuana interferes with the anti-psychotic effects of SSRIs because its psychoactive. At least that's thats what shrinks have told me or maybe they wanted me coming back for more meds all the time.

SSRIs and weed didn't mix well for me, I always felt sick as shit whenever I would smoke weed while I was on Prozac.

Panic attacks are very infrequent for me. The main reason I am on SSRI is because my anxiety manifests itself in self-mutilation, in my case biting my fingers and nails quite badly.

Sure smoking weed can get me pretty super-paranoid, but my friends and I usually get a kick out of it. lol


As for the tripping being an issue, that is completely wrong. SSRIs actually decrease the effects of hallucinogenics by a lot.

People get upset over others spreading misinformation and the like in regards to marijuana, why would any other off topic substance be different. I don't see how Opiates and Uppers are unsafe at all when used in moderation. All drugs can be unsafe, including marijuana. Driving while high, for example. Or maybe becoming a pot head and all you do is smoke weed all day every day and you fuck your life over because of it. Or how about you stumble over something and get hurt. Sure marijuana is pretty damn safe, but just because this site lists a drug as "off topic" or the drug isn't natural, does not make it any less safe.

All drug usage has risks. If you don't posses the ability to keep your usage in check, and use in moderation, then you shouldn't be doing the drug.


Anyways enough ranting, and enough "off topic" discussion. This thread has pretty much run its course, although I would like to hear people who are on SSRI discuss any differences noted while using marijuana.
