| Our son is 17 years old, a senior in H.S. he was diagnosed with ADHD at 7 years old, and now at this stage in his life, he started smoking, although we are against it as parents, he has informed us that it helps him focus better in school (his grades did start dropping before), and it helps him sleep better. He has been on the common meds all these years, the Ritalin and Adderral, these meds take away his hunger and they keep him up at night. I guess we are looking for advice here, we live in Az. but, we can travel to California to have him be seen by a certified physician. Closest city to us is San Diego, can somebody on this forum suggest a physician in Calif. that can see and examine our son and explain to us IF medical marijuana is in fact a solution for his unstable condition that he has had all these years. Thx. Desperate For Answers In Zona... |

| When my son was diagnosed with ADD, his school counselor recommended we get him put on Ritalin because he was getting to an age where children would begin self-medicating with marijuana. (Incidentally, we didn't have him put on Ritalin, and he doesn't smoke marijuana.) At the time, I remember thinking about (the idea in general not in the specific case of our son's possible ADD diagnosis) it and talking with my husband about it, and we were both of the opinion that marijuana probably does help control ADD. I find it significantly easier to sit still, concentrate on a task, and focus when I'm smoking, than when I am not. You can over-medicate and end up unable to do much of anything, but small amounts seem to help. I have OCD, and marijuana is the only medication I take for that. It helps me stop the rapid-fire, circular thinking and allows me to focus on a thing from beginning to end. I can function perfectly well with or without smoking, but it is easier (more comfortable mentally) when smoking.

It sounds like me and your son have something in common (atleast when i was his age).. I'm ADD, they tried to give me ritalin/adderal, but, it seems like to me... they were almost like downers... and like him, i had loss of appetite, and stayed up long hours. Well, i dropped out (not a smart idea. EVER.) but after i started smoking weed, it dawned on me, what a stupid, life-changing choice i had made overnight, without really thinking about the consequences.. and its changed my life for the better (so much better(the weed lol)) OnT: I honestly dont know if going to cali to see a doctor will infact, help you at all, because you need to be a resident of the state (not a citizen, just a resident), and have proof of residence.... Also, your state doesnt have MM yet, and if your son was caught with it (even with a legal californian prescript) he would be busted for it (well, depending on the cop, some are "cool" lol) and charged by how much he had with him (IE: mis, or felony). (And even if you lived in california, he could still be busted, as, you cant present a "medical marijuana" defense (because its still illegal federally).. So make sure he doesnt get busted. BTW: i think thats cool that, even though you dont personally agree with his marijuana use, or the medical uses of said marijuana, you are willing to give it a shot, based on the information available, to see if this natural medicine will help him EDIT: i get the same thing Texas Toker's Wife, OCD, ADD, circular, negative (atleast mine were) thought patterns, and marijuana has really helped put a lid on it... | |

| i was in the same boat as your son, theres a place called the alternative care clinic in san diego. my friend got his card from them very good place too get it done but i believe you have to be a resident of the state you apply for your card. this clinic is a simple walk in heres my problem heres your card, it is not a place to sit down and talk to the doctor about why or how it may help, but as someone who has had ADD and used marijuana to help some of my symptoms it does work, large amounts will not help but a few tokes of some good grade bud depending on your personal tolerance will help to calm the restlessness |
