Thank you for allowing me to listen to your support for the use of medical marijuana. I appreciate your taking time to share your views with me.

As a physician and a researcher, I have done extensive research on the impacts of marijuana. Twenty-six years ago, during my training as an allergy and asthma specialist, my colleagues and I studied marijuana at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. We found that all marijuana leaves were contaminated with inhalable molds, and most importantly, these disease-causing molds survived the smoking process. In fact, we never found any marijuana samples that were not contaminated with fungi capable of inducing either asthma attacks or even death from overwhelming fungal infections in immune-suppressed patients.

For this reason, I did not support the Hinchey medical marijuana amendment to H.R. 3093, the Commerce, Justice, and Science Appropriations Act for FY2008, which failed to win approval.

Ok so he says marijuana leaves have mold?? wtf even if they did thats not what you smoke.... and the marijuana they used for the experiment probably came from the government where it had been sitting forever and probably was altered by the government too... he has to know that too, but hes a government figure playing the "hard on drugs" card because thats what the majority of the people want in office. so stupid...

Thats one of the big problems with science in this country, there's really not much science going on, its all biased. They obviously had some bad weed and I believe there is only one medical lab in the country where they can legally get that. So what does that tell you?

Death from inhaling marijuana mold? I don't even know of a single death ever caused by cannais use. If you think mj causes death I automatically assume you don't know anything else. Sounds like his whole so called tests were completely bullshitted I have never heard of molds causing any effects.. We wouldve heard about it by now

And you haven't? Do a search on the site for "mold" and you'll find lots of posts warning about the possible effects of smoking moldy weed, primarily fungus infections in the lungs. Mold spores love damp dark places in which to start growing.

That said - Kagen's remarks are still BS. You will find mold spores everywhere. They're airborne and you can start a culture from almost any surface. Your body can deal with a few mold spores. It does so every day. The problem with smoking moldy weed is that you get such a concentration of them that it can overwhelm your immune response.

I love how he says that twenty-six years ago when he was training he studied it. He didn't have the technology we do now nor was he even fully trained! He's did some science fair project a quarter of a century ago and he thinks it still applies? He could have at least lied and said that he looked at a more recent study done by a professional. Just proves how ignorant some of our representatives are.

I guess he doesn't know that marijuana has never been a cause of death, and it is impossible to overdose. It is an extremely stable medication, and does not need to be used with caution (except if you're a rat ).
