| Hey, I'm 20 years old, in decent shape, exercise daily and eat fairly well (lots of fruits and veg's). I'm also a daily vaper, sometimes 2-3 times daily. Recently when I went to the doctor, my bloodpressure was high (140/80) since then i've been watching it with a cuff, and it chills around 125-140 on a daily basis / 79-90. I feel that as someone who runs and lifts daily, is only 20 years old, takes no supplements other than vitamins, and has no real risk factors for hypertension (no one in my family has gotten it this young), my bp should be at MAXIMUM around 130/85, and be usually around 110-125/70-80. the only thing that may be the cause is the vaping? I know marijuana usually lowers bp, and i've seen this, after vaping my diastolic lowers to the upper 70's. But, maybe I've been smoking too much? I know that when I get high, regardless of how much I smoke, i usually am the "high one." I still get really giggly and hyper, I don't know if this has anything to do with it but i'm just throwing it hout there. Anyone know if this could possibly be the cause? I"m going to abstain for a while and see how it turns out, but does anyone know? And how long should I abstain for to get an accurate conclusion? |

| How tall are you and how much do you weigh? You eat lots of fruits and veggies but do you also eat lots of sodium and red meat? Do you smoke? Do you/How often do you consume alcohol? Pot is a vasodilator. Meaning that it expands your blood vessels, lowering your bp. The only thing I could think of is maybe it restricts respiration or something lung related that could raise your bp. Isn't 140/80 considered normal anyways?

It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy. The heresy of heresies was common sense. And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable what then?" |

| I weigh 145, am 5'7'', don't eat very much meat at all, mainly chicken and beans, i do eat foods with sodium, but i eat a lot of homecooked meals rather than fastfood or college type dishes, so i'm eating a lot less sodium than most my age. I'm in college so i drink on weekends, but only on weekends (sometimes thursdays) never during any other days, i don't really like alcohol except for at parties. I know alcohol is a contributor, but my blood pressure (first few times i measured it) was like this even when I hadn't drank in a while. A while being two weeks or so. And yeah, i don't know because i'm aware that pot speeds up your heart rate and lowers your bp..which is evident, because i just smoked and took my blood pressure a little while after and it was lower. however, i'm thinking that maybe because i'm smoking daily has some sort of different effect. too much of a good thing isn't always good.. Here's a chart I was given, my bp should be much lower for my age, over 140/85 is considered high. Blood Pressure Chart |

| for your age it is a little elavated.. however it is no where near dangerous.. i am 32, with asthma, and a whole family who is on bp meds.. when i went to the oral surgeon recently it was 210 over 119, and the doctors eyes were huge, they attributed it partly to me being VERY nervous about some tooth extractions, but not completely, and i went to the doctor the same day to get checked out.. after 6 months of bp meds i was down to 150s over mid to high 80s low 90s.. my doctor was happy with my progress, and it is headed the right direction, but still high.. 3+ weeks ago i bought a vaporizer.. i was a half ounce a week smoker, and have gone to vaping 100% at home.. (still about a 1/2 ounce a week, but i am cutting back, i can tell) after just this short time, my bp average has come down to 140 over 80-82. so i promise smoking herb CAN raise BP especially with someone with asthma.. vapings side effect has been, for me anyway, lower bp.. but i cannot compare it to no smoke and no vaping, i am hopelessly dependent on herb, i'm afraid..

| Yeah, thanks for the insight and good luck. i'm not really sure what the effects are because i think it is different for how your reaction is to weed. i think it can raise or lower, depending on strain, vape or smoke, etc. but i also think that even if it did lower it, my body might have gotten used to a lower bp from smoking daily, almost all day, and that has thrown my body off to become more elevated when i'm completely sober, or just linger around that high normal area. i know my readings are not dangerous, but i feel that i am really healthy for my age, and by reading some charts it says that my max should be around 130, rather than my resting. I'm just trying to stay healthy and get to my optimum bp |

| I had the same bllod pressure when I played sports in high school. I think people get hung up on what the government says is normal. MJ has never effected my BP one way or the other but I've known people that have had there BP both raised and lowered by MJ. |

| true, it's just that mine wasn't always like this, and the only thing i've really changed in my life is my smoking habit (and working out, never used to do that). So idk, we'll see, this is day 1 of abstaining, no change thus far. |

| at 16 your bp should def not be that high, but it all depends on your build as well. However, I don't wanna jump to conclusions, but day two of abstaining and I already notice a difference, just took it three times, once in each arm and another a few minutes later just to confirm all around 130/75, nothing going over 131/79. I'm keeping track of everything and will come back here to report results for any others who are curious. My usage was (prior to this break) everyday, 2-3 times of heavy vaping. |

| just a note, you shouldnt take it 3 times in a row.. so far your results are interesting.. i wouldnt of thought vaping could raise your bp, especially since i notice the exact opposite.. however i am paying attention to this tthread, cause i would also like to keep my pressure as low as possible.. |
