Probably not. If this is the only time you've had a bad anxiety attack in 6 or 7 years of smoking, the cause was probably your environment.

The only way to tell, though, is to get high again and see what happens. Just take it slow, and get yourself in a comfortable mood.

I'm no expert on anxiety attacks, though, so please don't take my word for it.

Hey guy, i have returned. I know i stormed off, but i missed the evironment of Cheaptalk, and this is a good thread to return to.

I have had very bad panick attacks while stoned, and while not stoned. No the effects will not last forever. But i will warn you worrying about a panick attack can bring on panick attacks. Try not to worry about it the next time you smoke.

I am no expert like teufelfisch said, but i have done a few reports on it. So my word is not very good either.

what if i can't not think about having an anxiety attack when i'm high. i have a fear of drugs and what they will do to me i have seen to many bad things happen and i always think about that when i'm high i just have this feeling that if i were to smoke again it would happen again.

Ah, so we have a cause. Your rumination about having an anxiety attack causes the anxiety attack.

Now, my suggestion would be to change the method you use to get high. Make some pot brownies. I think this would help you to not focus on the scary part ("Am I going to have an anxiety attack?"). After you've been high a few times without that fear, you'll stop thinking about it.

I would also change the environment. If you usually get high alone, go out with some friends. Go water-skiing, or go play laser tag, or paintball-- do something that will preoccupy your thoughts, that won't even give you the time to start thinking about those anxiety attacks.

If you find it truly impossible to not focus on the possibility of an anxiety attack, take a break for a while. Get it out of your system, and don't even think about anxiety attacks for a long time. This should help you break the association between marijuana and the anxiety attack. I think.

If worse comes to worse, you might have to quit smoking completely. I hope it doesn't get this extreme, though.

Hey there marc...

You aren't alone.

But panic attacks can be very very scarey.

Often they are triggered, when high, by an underlying anxiety -- often by the very illegality of the act of inebriating with an illegal substance. The repercussions of being caught are serious and quite tragic.

The best way to avoid this is to recognize that it is NOT paranoia when THEY are after you for what you chose to do with your body.

Then, decide what you want to do now. If you are young, under 18, the stakes can be very high -- no pun intended -- and putting weed aside for awhile can be the right call.

If you are over 18, lets say in college, you might need to consider the effect on you if you get caught -- loss of college moneys, getting kicked out of the dorm, etc.

As an adult, smoking effects getting a job (urine tests) and there is the whole question of your own children...and that is just scraping the surface.

You can make good decisions about when to smoke and where -- and that should help your anxiety a bit.

If the underlying cause is still something else, than a conversation with a counselor is probably the best route to go.
