hey all I think i'm a victim of panic attacks recently, only been smoking for about 2-3 months (since I started at least 4-5 times a week) and i'm in high school

it started when I bought some mids (only been smoking schwag) it's very different then the stuff I was used to, the day I bought it I took a ride with the guy smoking, which I was really uncomfortable with at the time -- which I believe was mistake #1 I did get very high, I didn't quite have a panic attack but I was very paranoid and "out of it" that night, more so than ever. I kept smokin outa that bag by myself in alleys at night (which did/does bother me a little bit) or wake-n-bake in the closet in the morning, each session the "effects" kept building up and I blame my self right now for not stopping THEN. Like I would notice playing games while stoned off that sack and feeling uncomfortable, and heart starting to get a bit fast at the time.

on monday (just took a 5 day break before this) and that was a very bad mistake. Smoked a whole joint to myself in an alley, on the way to school it was very bad attack.. my heart was racing so fast I really thought it was going to explode or I would have a heart attack or something.. my mind was racing to, thinking of bad things just making the attack worse found myself saying "I need to get out of this car, now!" in my head alot.

now i've been having attacks ever since (get attacks while sober), and decided I really needed another break on tuesday. my attacks are the same thing, racing heart, tense chest kinda feels like a cramp in my lungs, and freaking out.. not gonna smoke till at least may, thats about 15 days.. Is that enough? I never had problems like this before this sack so can I expect to actually have a good time when I come back? Right now i'm kind of having an attack but the last 3 days i've been learning to kinda "control" it but it's not that easy, i'm VERY scared of marijuana right now, and I can't believe it. some changes i've had in my life recently - moving to another house, and hardley ever smoke with the friends anymore, the attacks I had was when I smoked by myself or really bad paranoia smoking with people I hardley knew.

You need to take a long break ...like a month or two -- and not only get this out of your system physically but mentally.

There was an old saying "once burnt...twice shy" meaning if you burned yourself on something you would be twice as "nervous " of it when you were around it again as ever before. Essentially that is what's happening to you.

Marijuana, and particularly higher grade marijuana (Mids and then Chronic or Hydro as it is called in most parts of the US) contain higher levels of THC than Shwag. It is not becuase it is "more potent" than weed was in the 70's so much as the Mid Grade and Chronic is coming from closer sources, is being grown without pollination occurring (what used to be called Sensemilla -- or "witout seeds"), and is being handled less so the crystals of THC remain on the plant matter. There have been btter quality of hybrids being produced as well, but that is similar to the "sweeter corn" we can buy in the grocery store or "seedless cucumbers" that sort of thing.

Getting back to your current problem:

1) You should not smoke very much -- you don't require it. Congratulations! You are one of the lucky people who can three hits and be "Good to go". You just saved a lot of money. You also know now not to touch Hard Drugs.

2) Take a break until this feeling passes -- the feeling of paranoia and anxiety whenever you toke up. It may require a break of a few weeks or months or even a year. Don't smoke unless you are in a safe location -- not an alley, car of someone you don't know, broom closet, clothes closet, etc. If you need to hide this that much, perhaps it is not time in your life yet to be experienceing cannabis.

3) Take care of yourself. While a racing heart is not a sign of heart disease; the level of nervousness and anxiety you describe is a sign of a high stress level. Take care of what is stressing you. Start small by making sure you are sleeping enough, eating right, and getting some "movement in the sunshine" -- some call it exercise, I call it walking my dog. Talk to friends or if you have no one to confide in, start chatting around here -- lots of folks to offer advice here.

You'll be okay...it just takes time

Thx mama I have been stressing more than usual lately, just around that time where exams arent far away at all, I think everybody stresses over that, lol.

It gets me down tho cause I used to just smoke with my friends and have a great time, we always smoked in a spot we knew we wouldnt get caught.. but thats all changed now since I moved.

I had never believed this before but good exercise and sleep can make you feel so much better and make you deal with your stresses so much easier.

Thank you so much for this thread.

I am male, 20 years old. The last few months I, my boyfriend and our good friend have all been smoking together and only us. We have been smoking out of a pipe, and than tried a little water bong which was okay too. So after two weeks or so my boyfriend wanted to try "smokey joe," our good friend moved in and it's a huge bong. So she put the ice in it and the water. I tried this and at first all was okay. I took a huge hit off the bong and almost coughed myself into vomiting. My chest burned and I went to get some air on the balcony when everything starting spinning.

I thought I was going to be sick. I went to use the bathroom and I felt like I was slipping out of the world/reality as the user "Eat Me," described. I started to cry and called for my bf to come in. I just felt like I was having paranoia but as I read in these forums I believe I had an anxiety attack. My leg muscles were numb, my heart rate felt really quick, and I felt like I was neo waking up in the matrix. I couldn't figure out if I was asleep or awake and I just freaked out. It was the most scariest thing that has ever happened to me and the least expected and my boyfriend really doesn't understand why I couldn't handle it. At least I have some literature to show him now cause I thought I was crazy. I am happy to know that this is common now as I am still scared of what happened last nite.

I think I will take a break for a while. But I wanted to say thank you so much for the information. And once I am done with my break I think I will stick to pipes. 3 to 5 hits and I am usually good ..in the happy place. As it prob should be.

Are you new to smoking? Because what you describe sounds more like a first-time high. You said you only smoked out of pipes and then you tried a bong for the first time. Often times people who just start smoking only do so out of a pipe or joint and they say they really "got high" when they took a bong rip.

It sounds like you and your friends are somewhat new to marijuana and you suddenly got much higher than you're accustomed to. This precipitated an anxiety attack.

It's ironic that I get stoned to do those kinds of things ...doing the washing walking the Poochie settingup a stew for the evening meal, mopping the floor ... It's so much more enjoyable doing the mundane with a buzz on...

Default My experience

Ive enjoyed smoking for around 4 years daily then one day it all turned sour and i had a panic attack and subsequent ones following... however ive overcome my attacks (been a year) and realized that they are all mental.. and have been smoking just every few weeks…. and during my smoking sessions ive been completely fine and relaxed mentally!! however i still have the physical syimptoms of an attack every time i smoke... Its extremely sad and frustrating as i love marijuana... But its extremely ironic how im Perfectly fine mentally relaxed yet i still get the physical reactions of a panic attack every single time.......

Im in the most relaxed setting and I AM INDEED Relaxed but my heart still beats at exessive of 160+BPM... and its not the normal "increase of heart rate" i used to get when i enjoyed smoking... I ignore it but maybe i have to face the truth:

my body simply does not like marijuana and its ingredients... its truely been sad for me to accept this... yet i continue to smoke and get horrible physical feelings!

It seems like my body goes into the FLIGHT or FIGHT Reponsose mode and massive adrenaline is pumped for no reason and all a physical reaction… its very strange and has be confused and frustrated! And keep in mind that my mind is in control and i have the best mindset.. i still enjoy the high and all but the physical feeling i get is just unpleasant!
