marijuana only impairs long term development if you start too early and do it too much. and thinks like short term memory get better when you quit, ive done it and the only time i feel stupid is after i drink a lot.
as to the immune system, there are actually cannabinoid (CB2) receptors in your immune system, but no one is sure of what they do and what they do differently when you smoke weed, if anything at all. some scientists suggests that maybe this is a key to making weed more of a medicine than a recreational drug if they could make a synthetic version of thc that binds more to the CB2 receptors than the CB1 receptors (the ones in your head). this synthetic thc could, theoretically, not get you high but help your body. maybe if the govt would allow more real research on weed, this could be explored further and the immune system issue settled.
i think the 'addiction' factor has already been more than disproven, more of a psychological addiction if anything (and caffeine is actually physically addictive, as well as very psychologically addictive).
and to the carcinogens, it contains no more carbon monoxide and tars than tobacco. but it is different from tobacco smoke in two main ways:
1. because it drains the ground it is grown on, tobacco is fertilized with fertilizers that have a radioactive isotope of lead in them (Pb-210 i think), this radioactive stuff is part of the cigarette smoke. ive never heard of anyone using such a fertilizer for weed, so that risk is gone.
2. weed smoke is a bronchiodialator, so it opens up your lungs a bit. this helps asmatics (sp?), but also helps the regular lung get rid of some of that waste that accumulates down there. nicotine actually tightens up your lungs. people who smoke cigarettes and weed have been shown to live 7-10 years longer than people who only smoke cigarettes because the weed helps their lungs clean out a bit.
ive also read somewhere a long time ago that tobacco smoke tars are more sticky to your lungs than weed tars.

if i had only known all of this when i was in health class, i would have given my teacher a beating during this lesson. i didnt smoke back then and didnt really check up on what anyone told me about it until about a year later, before i started smoking actually. so i had no idea how much bs they were telling me until later, makes me mad.

Science explains.

- Destroys brain cells
This one's already been covered. It was disproven a long time ago.

- Causes the brain to age prematurely
Never heard this before, sounds like BS.

- Impairs long term development
This one's too general. Long-term development of what?

- It IS addictive
This one is at least partially true. It is psychologically addictive, but not physically. But that psychological addiction can be real powerful sometimes.

- Depresses the Immune System
Scientists aren't sure about this one. The cannabinoid receptors (CB1, CB2, and now maybe another) are responsible for many things in your body, including immune system function. How THC and other non-endogenous cannabinoids affect the immune system is being studied. I wish I had some references here.

- Contains Benzopyrene, a well known carcinegen(sp?)
Unfortunately, any burning substance is broken down into many other chemicals along the way. Even though we can't prove that anyone has gotten cancer from weed and weed alone, the smoke of any burning plant material will inevitably contain some toxins and carcinogens.

Not true. Any chemical fertilizer that uses mined (like from the ground) phosphates will contain some Pb-210 and Po-210. These are naturally occuring radioactive isotopes that unfortunately get in the mix. If someone has fertilized their weed with a chemical fertilizer, they have just put Pb-210 and Po-210 into it. Research has shown that these heavy metals accumulate in your lungs. Once you get 'em in, you can't get 'em out.

The way around this is to use organic fertilizers, which don't use mined phosphates. The tobacco companies will never do this, because organic fertilizers cost way too much. But the average home grower can afford to invest a little extra time and/or money into organic fertilizer. Hopefully he or she has done so.

Psh, coffee/caffeine and chocolate are more addictive than weed.

Default LIES LIES LIES! sick of it

Look, marijuana isnt addictive physically( your metabolism doesnt need it to function).Marijuana can be addictive to those with addictive personalities. People can get addicted to anything, chocolate, whatever. They tell you that 1 joint is equivalent to a bunch of cigs in the amount of TAR left in the lungs, what they dont tell you is that the tar can be cleaned out of the lungs within a week or two. Also some studies show that weed has a bronchiodialator effect in which it cleans out the lungs. Here is the one thing they leave out:the tar in cigs is less, but it has radioactive components which are horrible for your health. All these people make up bull**** and for WHAT? Even Abe Lincoln said that a prohibition goes against the very foundations on which our government was founded. Judge Francis Young of the DEA rules that marijuana is a safe drug and should be legalized. Here is the link : http://www.ccguide.org.uk/young88.php. SO **** ALL YOU NARROW MINDED HYPOCRITICAL FAGS OUT THERE! I hate it when people say weed is so bad then they go and eat like 2 double quarter pounders, or go a get drunk at the club or smoke a cig. I was talking to my step mom and she said, "there was a kid that went to my high school that OD'd off of weed, he smoked 5 joints." I've smoked way more than 5 joints. There is no lethal amount of THC. Its funny when people tell me weed is so bad and I ask them what the drug is in weed that gets you high and they sit there like "durrrrrr" and I say, "THC-Tetrahydrocannibinol you ****ing dip****" Ignorance is going to bring the downfall of the human race. Wait and see. Peace out everyone.BTW I'm 16.
