From a 1996 study by A. J. Gruber, H. G. Pope, and M.E. Brown:

Do Patients Use Marijuana As An Antidepressant:

"Several lines of evidence suggest that cannabis may have antidepressant effects. Evidence seems particularly clear that Marijuana produced a direct antidepressant effect. These observations argue that many patients use Marijuana to "self-treat" depressive symptons."

Another one, from the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical:

"The authors present case histories indicating that a number of patients find cannabis (marihuana) useful in the treatment of their bipolar disorder. Some used it to treat mania, depression, or both. They stated that it was more effective than conventional drugs, or helped relieve the side effects of those drugs. One woman found that cannabis curbed her manic rages; she and her husband have worked to make it legally available as a medicine. Others described the use of cannabis as a supplement to lithium (allowing reduced consumption) or for relief of lithium's side effects. Another case illustrates the fact that medical cannabis users are in danger of arrest, especially when children are encouraged to inform on parents by some drug prevention programs. An analogy is drawn between the status of cannabis today and that of lithium in the early 1950s, when its effect on mania had been discovered but there were no controlled studies. In the case of cannabis, the law has made such studies almost impossible, and the only available evidence is anecdotal. The potential for cannabis as a treatment for bipolar disorder unfortunately can not be fully explored in the present social circumstances."

Here's just a personal viewpoint from a guy:

"I think, in many cases however, it would be a good substitute for a regimen of antidepressant medications. I am sure antidepressants have a useful purpose and are most often appropriately prescribed, but perhaps there are some cases that would be better served by an occasional dose of THC. Back when I first came to prison, I tried Elavil, Xanax and Valium to relieve stress. They all worked in varying degrees of effectiveness but I did not like the way they altered my personality. After a while they made me "feel" differently all the time. I even dreamed in a different way. It's hard for me to describe but those drugs caused a subtle alteration in my personality. I prefer pot. It's not habit-forming and it does not cause the kind of unwanted change other antidepressants do. Marijuana is good medicine."

Here's something else (http://www.bisdro.uni-bremen.de/boel...s/10-grins.pdf)

"Cannabis was first proposed as a treatment for depression by Jacques Joseph Moreau de Tours in 1845. During the next 100 years his proposal was supported and disputed in a number of medical papers. Standard antidepresseants often require 3 weeks or longer to work. Today, among the minority of depressed patients who do not respond to any of the standard antidperessants or find the side effects unbearable, some have discovered that whole smoked marihuana is more useful than any legal drig. This evidence is anecdotal, and large scale clinical studies will eventually be required.

A sidenote, not on topic with this (http://www.Marijuana.com/420/announcement.php?f=86)

Effective Today (at approximately 13:30) Marijuana.Com (Cheaptalk) changed it's registration policy to read you must be 18 or over to register at this site.

Any member who is under 18 but signed up before the change went into effect will be grandfathered in. Their status does not change.
One more thing. You're only 15, there's a lot of "crap" going on in your mind right now, what you think is depression might just be part of growing up. Puberty and adolescence is a *****

Yes

Marijuana is a Euphorant...among other things.

Euphoria, as you know, means...happy. ANd it does make one feel better.

What you are experiencing is feeling "the Blues" which can have a number of causes including the natural hormone shifts of being an adolescent as well as school stress and family stress.

A lot of times these things can be alleviated by "talk therapy". This is where you go to a counselor who is familiar with what you are going through and you get a chance to discuss what is happening in your life and you get ideas, plans and generally HELP from someone not related to you -- about dealing with LIFE...something that is pretty useful to know about.

You may want to actually bring this up to your mom -- She's probably noticed that you are "moping around the house' anyway. Find someonw you feel comfortalbe with -- a man, a woman, older type, younger type. Most insurance covers this and if you don't have insurance, Private Mail me (PM and I can give you a list of groups that do this stuff for free)

Smoking weed isn't bad... Having to quit because your mom found out isn't bad either...

Weed's been around for a few million years...it'll be around un 4 years when you are in College, I'm pretty sure of it...

Until then...have a cookie

Hugz,

Mama Budz
