| Not a question, just something to consider... Recently, towards the end of Thanksgiving night, my mother was getting herself a glass of water from the refrigerator. She carelessly overflowed the tall glass with ice cubes. She then proceeded to do the same, but with the water. I stare at her, dumbfounded, and she points to the unnecessary mess on the floor, and, with immense focus and tenderness, orders me to “get the… thing… for…” I assume she is attempting to have me wipe her spill up with a kitchen towel. Before completing the favor, my brother and I watch as she struggles to maintain balance and keep from veering to the left as she walks ten feet to the family room. “Wow,” I think to myself and later say to my brother, “She must be ****ing wasted”. She is more drunk than my retarded friends last year at all of those Sweet Sixteen birthday parties… But wait… my mother physically can not handle alcohol intoxication. She has liver disease and a plethora of health problems; she can only allow herself miniscule amounts of alcoholic beverages on rare occasions. Why is she so out of it? It turns out that she simply took her medication before dinner rather than follow her routine of popping the appalling handful of pills before getting into bed at night. More than once I have witnessed her literally choking and gagging on those horrible capsules of death; tearing violently from her eyes swollen out of her beet red, agonized face. I have delayed going out with my friends in order to stand there with her to pat her on the back and massage her shoulders before I gain the minimal amount of confidence necessary to allow her out of my sight. Often she uses a mortar and pestle to smash the drugs into a powder to mix into apple sauce. The bitter taste of these mind-altering, symptom suppressing, health reducing drugs makes even this method unpleasant. This piece of writing is not intended to be aimed entirely at the benefits of Marijuana, but at the fact that our government and medical professionals routinely drug up faithful patients, filling the pockets of the dirty, legal drug dealers, and forgetting the basic principle of good health; prevention, not symptom suppression. There is never a cause or a cure for health ailments nowadays, but always an expensive, synthetic pill to ingest throughout the entirety of one’s life. It is a blessing that our government aims to and does protect its citizens in many situations, and performs research and investigation. Yet, it is absolutely intolerable when our government and the authority figures of our society make and enforce laws that go completely against the basis of our government and the ideals that they preach and embrace. Marijuana is insanely despised by the vast majority of those respected in our modern society. It is taught to be a mind-numbing, irrational thought and action-provoking substance, which must be kept away from the human race at all costs. Yet, the fact will always remain that it is a plant. It is a weed. It does not cause intense hallucinations or violence. It is powerful, but it deserves fair understanding. My weak, sick mother mentioned to me that the medicine which gets her completely trashed during her daily sleep stimulates her appetite and aids in her sleep. She also informed me that she has no acceptable medicine for her intense body aches. I have witnessed her incapable of standing up from the floor on her own, and incapable of merely lifting her own arms. She knows of no safe drug to ease this miserable distress. In fifteen months, the trusted doctors that would never prescribe Marijuana as a safe symptom suppressor, have only increased my mother’s intake of chemicals and controlled substances, and have not cured her or made here even the slightest picture of health. After lightly suggesting Marijuana to my mother (because it would undoubtedly eliminate her need for appetite and sleep stimulating drugs, the occasional drink, and would be an acceptable pain-reliever), she replied, “I don’t want to do any drugs…” Ironic, eh? I forever wish that my mother would seek a true, natural cure, and attempt to understand the concept of prevention. I firmly believe that spontaneous episodes of poor health are primarily the result of a perverted human diet, as well as from influence of environmental factors. Yet, I understand that my mother, like most modern humans, refuse to grasp this idea. I will not dig into this subject, but will let my mother stand as a representation of the inconceivable number of sick, desperate victims of modern society in this world. Marijuana should never be sought after as a cure, or used while expecting no side effects or risks. It is strongly mind-altering, and can easily cause obsession (a separate problem). It must be treated with caution and respect, as with any other drug. Fortunately, it is a substance that has not been tainted by the human race, aside from some chemical fertilizers during growth or the flame that turns the beautiful buds into delectable smoke. Hey- just grow it yourself organically and use a vaporizer! My point is that it is difficult to find solutions. It is difficult for a doctor to understand what exactly is wrong in each of the number of patients that he or she diagnoses. It is difficult for a government to make and enforce laws, while satisfying the intense diversity of humans living within its boundaries. But it is also difficult for me to understand why so many drugs are sold and consumed legally, with equivocal effects and risks as Marijuana or other illegal drugs. I just pray that conscious member of our race would prefer a fellow human being to get stoned (and eat some food and go to sleep), rather than guzzle down artificial chemicals, often while being treated as a lab rat by the medical community. *Smoke weed, enjoy it, but make something of your life ![]() |
