I need your support, friends. I have severe hydrocephalus. I have severe kypho-scoliosis. I have moderate muscle spasticity. I have prearthritis in my knees, back, neck, hips and shoulders. (My word for what my OT said is happening) All of these conditions cause me great pain. Hydrocephalus is a condition of a "benign" (noncancerous) cyst in the brain. The particular type that I have fills roughly half of my skull with cerebral spinal fluid. The fact that my brain is crammed into half the natural space it requires translates into excruciating headaches. Kypho-scoliosis, in layman's terms, is hunchback. The vertebrae and muscles of my spine are so interested in degenerating into a twisted mess, that my spine BROKE one of the two stainless steel rods holding it in place. I have to go back in for more surgery in the next six months. Prearthritis is the condition where your joints are predisposed to arthritis because they are forced to rub unnaturally. What I need from you guys is every scintillia of info you can find on cannabinoid pain managment, Okay?

I was under the impression that there were no nerves or "pain receptors" in your brain. Could of course be wrong, and the compaction of the brain matter would of course strain the blood vessels, leading ot headaches. Anyway, I myself have not studied the pain management subject extensively, but I assure you that there are many people here who's expertise will be quite beneficial. Good luck with all that. Ah, and Pleases and Thankyous are always much appreciated.

thanks anyway. What makes you think I haven't sought the advice of several qualified doctors? I have had 17 major surgeries, bub. I have spent in excess of 1500 days in one hospital or another. How about you keep the snideness to a minimum, okay? I can't tell you how disappointed I am. I asked for help not abuse. I thought the cannabis community would be a little more... oh I don't know... compassionate...? Empathetic...? I ask for your help, not because I haven't done the due diligence, but because I AM AT THE END OF MY ROPE! I don't know where to turn. I require a very simple, very easy thing. Information. That's all. If you have any information that might help me convince my GP and my orthopaedic surgeon to get me off OXYCONTIN and ON WEED, please direct me towards that. OTHERWISE, your snarky commentary is most UNAPPRECIATED! Thank you.

| Go here: http://www.cannabis-med.org/studies/study.php Click on 'Search for diagnosis...' Check the box for pain. Click the search button. It'll list all the studies in that database involving cannabis and pain. Hope that helps.

Lilgrasshoppah, I am terribly sorry you are in so much pain and hope you can find some relief soon. Do the homework, take the info to your docs, but let them make the decision, OK? Best of luck.

lilgrasshoppah, I'm so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I sincerely hope that something will give you some relief. Pain management is really tough thanks to all the abuse and new laws. I have a friend living with AIDS and a host of other chronic degenerative disorders. He uses MJ and marinol (capsulized form of MJ oil) along with is other pain relief. MJ does provide a great deal of pain relief but for you and the severity of the pain you are experiencing, I think you will probably have to combine MJ with other pain meds. You can probably lessen your use of other pain meds like the oxycontin, but MJ alone will not provide quite that high a level of relief. I urge you to discuss it with the Dr. though. For one thing, MJ increases blood flow and dilates blood vessels so with your hydrocephalus, needless to say that could be dangerous. If you get the go ahead from the Dr., you'll just need to experiment to see what level of relief you get from it. One thing that my friend really likes is that the MJ does not have the side effects like constipation that the oxycontin does. In any case I hope we are able to help you and I hope you can get relief. Take care!

The knowledge that Cannabis is both an antiinflamatory as well as an anelgisic has been known for quite awhile. While Cannabis is not a "cure all", it is very effective on a number of medical conditions. Chronic pain management is one of them...
