Hi i just wanted to know if any of you know if marijuana causes mental diseases such as scitsofrenia etc.

Plz post only if you are sure of this.

Hey man,

No, marijuana does not cause mental illness but in certian people it can cause some symptoms of mental illness like paranoia for instance. Infact, it is used for various mental illness, bulima, anorexia, skitzophrenia... anyway I have Skitzophrenia and I have a girl friend who also is and we both MUST claim that the use of marijuana not only quiets the voices, it reduces halicinations, reduces panic attacks and anxiety attacks, paranoia is greatly reduced. I also have bipolar disorder, OCD and BPD. Its use mellows out my mania's and it takes the edge off depression, it TOTALLY helps my OCD by reducing my extreme need for repetition. As for my BPD it just makes its extremes not so extreme.

Schizophrenia

...is not caused by marijuana usage.

As marijuana is a substance that can and dose effect perception, an indivudal who suffers from undiagnosed shizophrenia may exhibit their first full blown schizophrenic break following the use of marijuana.

It should also be pointed out however, that many schizophrenics use marijuana as a medication to off set the side effects of the medcation they take to control their illness.

The jury is out, so to speak, on the effectivenesof it's use for this purpose -- the sufferes want freedom to self medicate, the medical community is wary of it's use ...after all...it is weed and not a patented pharmeceutical -- and who would take the word of a crazy person over a doctor -- even if it is the patient's own body.

Now go do a search with the proper spelling and you will come up with all sorts of information...
