| I'm just wondering who/what to believe in order to make informed decisions. I've smoked pot for years, and I find it to be more enjoyable than ever...and a great stress-reliever, and perfect for my music-listening, dancing, etc. In fact , when I smoke a joint or even less, some people think I'm on something MUCH stronger (coke, dexedrine, even acid!) It lasts for hours and I'm full of energy. These are all positive experiences for me. So, I'm trying to weigh those against any Harmful, Negative PHYSICAL consequences to my body/health, after these many years. We all know re: the cancer, emphysema, lung diseases, heart disease, etc. that cigarettes definitely cause. There's no debate. But when I try to get that kind of info re: the long-term marijuana negative health consequences, how do I know which studies ( if there are any!) are fact-based, with no political or social agenda? I just want real, unbiased medical Facts. Cigarette packs have the warning labels, but how can I get facts about pot? Thanks and Happy New Year to all................ |

| Its hard to conduct unbiased studies because the major player in the drug war, the DEA, guards the gates to research. If your a graduate student wanting to research marijuana you have to first Find a professor or PI who is willing to sponsor your research. You have to find funding. You also have to get approval from the DEA/NIDA. The National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) funds most of the illegal drug research. The studies they approve and fund are biased, where would their organization be if drug use wasn't considered abuse. The DEA rejects and holds most research proposals that don't suit their interests. If a researcher tries to go behind their back, they usually get busted. Dr. Hornby a honorable cannabis researcher was busted in Canada. Im not sure what happened to Dr. Hornby after they raided his labratory, anyone know? |

| Hello, I would recommend the book "Understanding Marijuana". It very clearly identifies the good and the bad aspects of cannabis use. I am a scientist by profession, and I found the book to be very well written. I would recommend two rules to any smoker. (1) Limit your cannabis consumption. Perhaps make a rule such as only on weekends or only with certain friends. (2) I would strongly consider using a vaporizer or learning to ingest cannabis properly. The risk of lung irritation/damage is always there with smoking anything. Just be sure to research the vaporizer before purchasing. There are many out there that just don't work. |

| There is no correlation between the amount of cannabis you smoke and anything negative you might be implying; as well, there is no evidence that suggests cannabis causes cancer, more importantly of the mouth, throat, or lungs.

| Dr Lester Grinspoon has some expert opinions. At the commence of his research he was anti-cannabis, and expect to compile reports supporting his opinion. He found otherwise. www.rxmarihuana.com/ has some info on his book "Marijuana the Forbidden Medicine". www.marijuana-uses.com/essays/001.html you may find interesting too.

| There have been studies that show a definite link between memory impairment and heavy chronic use of cannabis. Although the memory impairment has been shown to be a temporary and not a permanent problem. If an individual smokes large amounts of cannabis every day they should expect potential short term memory problems. I didn't mention any connection between cannabis and lung cancer. Although it is too early to say if there could be a connection. There is definite scientific evidence that indicates certain individuals can experience lung/bronchial irritation from cannabis smoke. That is why I would recommend the vaporizers. These are just general rules. The risks are very specific to the individual user. |

| There are unbiased people out there, but generally their works don't get read. In today's society you have to stir up something to get the attention of the general public. I could give you some unbiased research articles but I don't think you would like them. They're very hard to read. Generally just be wary of any information you come across-- be smart and don't take anyone's word for complete unbiased *truth*. |
