| Hey everyone I'm a relatively new smoker (about 5 months) and i had a question related to indica based weed. I noticed the last time i was smoking a strong indica based weed, I felt more depressed/slow then usual. This period however, was after a long dryspell and I thought that since my body wasn't used to the THC anymore, I was extrasensative to being burned out. Recently I picked up a half oz of some killer weed that is mainly indica and the same thing seems to be happening. However, this is also after a long break from weed. The only reason I think it might be the indica is because after i've been smoking a certain strain for a while, even when i'm not high certain aspects of the weed im smoking seem to be present. Do you think indica based weed in general makes me more depressed? Or is it my body getting readjusted to the THC?-on a side note, the times when i was smoking the indica were not particularly sad times. Also, I'm usually sensative to anything introduced into my system at first. thanks!

| Yes, this is not uncommon. Sativa plants have a more cerebral high, indica are more laid back relaxed. This is how it works, however I prefer indica but you could call it depression. ![]()

| sativa = an "up" high, much more of a mental high indica = more of a "stoned" body high, lots of couch lock ![]() |

| After more than 15 years of smoking, and 10 years of depressive episodes I've come to the same conclusion: I will only smoke strains that are more sativa dominant (luckily widely available here). I didn't realise other people felt the same way. Sativa is apparently higher in THC and lower in CBNs, than Indica. My speculation is thats the reason, but I don't know for sure.

| I'd say that sativas are more likely to induce a clear state of mind while indicas tend to promote some confusion - a lack of mental control. I think of this in terms of "high" versus "stoned". If you're inclined towards depression, the indica-induced state would leave you more vulnerable to sliding into depressed ideation, the kind of negative spiral thinking that plagues depressed people. At one point I had to quit smoking indicas altogether. After I got more conscious control of my thoughts I could enjoy them again.
