| My dad has some severe back pain recently, plus the siatic nerve that runs down his leg that is giving him constant flare ups. It's gonna be awhile until he can see a doctor. He has been accepting offtopic pharmaceuticals from some people to try and allieviate the pain. But he has expressed that he does not like taking these drugs. I don't blame him. So this is a two-part series: First, is anyone familiar with this kind of pain, and has marijuana helped to allieviate it? Or can it at least help you tollerate the pain? I've been smoking for a while, but never had any severe physical pain that I can attest to while high. I know it works wonders for having a cold, as well as a coping mechanism for emotion. This is kinda 420 loungish, but if you have any input for this...: So now he is in constant pain, and it makes me feel bad to see my dad in this state. He's my idol. So... I want to give him some buds. I don't really know how to go about it. Although I'm pretty sure he'll accept. But he just doesn't know that I'm a frequent smoker. He knows I have smoked in the past, but he just doesn't know... you know what I'm sayin'? So I don't wanna freak him out either. For some reason something is holding me back from doing it. But I really want to help him out too. Suggestions on this front? If it helps, I'm 24, and he's 49. |

| bake the weed, and give it to him in portions taht he can easily handle. this would be a good way for him to find out if mj helps without smoking it. he can always decide to do that later if he thinks it would help. i have actually sold my weed cookies to one of my friends grandpa's, he has emphyzema (sp?), and i sold him two and told him to take half of one at a time and he liked it. this guy is 86 too. |

| It is very hard to answer this, your dads age and psychological state are of some concern. If he is completely aware of what he is going to expierence, have him read some info on this site, knows the gammit of possible outcomes a first time user might encounter, then he can prepare himself for as many of those outcomes as possible, it might be worth the risk. There is a risk, small risk, of a paranoid type of reaction. Be prepared to give him something sweet if this happens and a quiet place to reflect, as well as someone to have some stimulating conversation with if he just enjoys every moment oof his first smoke. Just a possibility that it will work for his pain, a close friend in A'Dam has been smoking for 10 years for his back pain and he swears its the only way he gets through each day, and he is turning 60 this August.
