| I realize your liver is responsible for metabolizing most drugs, including marijuana, so if your sick like a virus or flu, it wouldent be a good idea to add extra stress to your liver by consuming marijuana would it? and dose marijuana indeed reduce the immune response?

| Your liver isn't the one going after, say, bacteria that are causing you to be sick. That's your white blood cell's job. Keep in mind that when people are sick or hurting, they often take drugs to help them get better. These drugs get metabolized by liver. Most of the time they end up better than before. And if they don't, it's probably not because the liver was too bogged down by metabolizing drugs and whatnot. So I don't think you need to worry about that when it comes to weed. And no, it doesn't make your immune system weaker.

| It's been arpproximately 3 years that I'v been smoking and I haven't been sick since I started. This could be a coincidence or a proof of marijuana not reducing the immune system. |

| I wasn't really clear enough, but here's the site I found. Yea, mono is different from a virus or flu, but I was just wondering kinda-thing. http://studenthealth.oregonstate.edu...hp?message=453 |

| I actually enjoy a good toke when I'm sick because of its painkiller qualities and eing high makes me forget how sick I really am at the time... It makes everything better for the time being. |

With Marijuana my concern is more the irritation to your lungs and bronchi and throat. Your immune system is incredibly weakened and any irritation can cause the opprtunity for infection. In addition, SHARING A BONG, DOOB, PIPE with ANYONE will make them susceptible to your mono and any other bugs you may be harboring. Can you say QUARANTINE YOURSELF??? Quote:

| Do not smoke Marijuana with Mono. I made this mistake. When I had mono, I didn't know it for a few weeks...kept going to the colleg nurse and she kept telling me it wasn't mono. I had been a regular pot smoker for a while before this time, so i continued to smoke (though less) during my bout with mono. I would wake up after a night of smoking (one or two bowls with friends) to find that my throat was worse than the day before. I tried to stop, but ended up smoking a couple times a week anyway. After a while, i realized that my symptoms were not going away, so i quit pot entirely. The mono got better. However, each time i would smoke, the mono symptoms would re-emerge. Still to this day (three years later) when i get high two or more times in consecutive days, my glands become swollen and I get really tired. It's almost as if my immune system has a memory and that it thinks the virus is attacking when I smoke pot. My glands start fighting the mono all over again and I feel run down. I gave up pot for an entire year. The first time i smoked after giving it up for a year, i was fine. The next time: fine too -- i thought i was in the clear and bought a bag and got high like everyday for a week or so--then boom, all over again, my glands and lymph nodes got swollen and sore, i got tired, etc...now when i smoke this happens almost immediately. Sucks big time, so I'm just writing this to clear it up once and for all: For those of you suffering from Mono: DO NOT SMOKE POT until you are cured...eight weeks sounds like a good amount of time to abstain...the longer the better if you ask me. |
