Question Dealing with anxiety

Hi,

I'm a 22yo male and I've been smoking cannabis regulary for about 3 to 4 years. I tend to smoke about 2-3 grams a week. About 6 months ago, I started to experience vague anxiety in social situations; like being out at a bar, etc. It wasn't so much a mental panic as it was just an inability to relax until I went home. It would occasionally happen while I was high, too, but not as often as when I went out.

I decided that it might have something to do with my cannabis intake, or possibly my tobacco intake (which varies from heavy to light). So I took last december off smoking pot, and it seemed to pretty much go away (unfortunaley, one of the reasons I use it is to help with my back pain, which returned which a vengeance when i took a month off). When I started smoking again in January, it gradually came back. So I guess it's pretty obvious that cannabis is starting to give me mild (sometimes strong, but never "panic"), uncomfortable anxiety when I'm in social situations.

The thing is, I'm obviously very fond of it and I don't want to give it up completley at all. I am currently a daily smoker so I'm strongly considering going back to once a week. After all, I think it's the best way to do it. And when I gave it up last december, it did only take about a week before I felt better. I've wondered whether it could be the strain I'm getting, but I doubt it, since that varies.

I wanted to ask if anyone else had experienced this much, and if they knew of any other ways of dealing with, herbal or vitamin supplements, etc..

It sounds to me like a very mild case of agoraphobia that is exacerbated by marijuana. Phobias are a kind of anxiety disorder.
Fortunately, phobias are very treatable. In fact, most people who seek treatment completely overcome their fears for life. Effective relief can be gained through either behavior therapy or medication.

In behavior therapy, one meets with a trained therapist and confronts the feared object or situation in a carefully planned, gradual way and learns to control the physical reactions of fear. The person first imagines the feared object or situation, works up to looking at pictures that depict the object or situation, and finally actually experiences the situation or comes in contact with the feared object. By confronting rather than fleeing the object of fear, the person becomes accustomed to it and can lose the terror, horror, panic, and dread he or she once felt.

Medications are used to control the panic experienced during a phobic situation as well as the anxiety aroused by anticipation of that situation and are the treatment of first choice for social phobia and agoraphobia.

Any phobia that interferes with daily living and creates extreme disability should be treated. With proper treatment, the vast majority of phobia patients can completely overcome their fears and be symptom free for years, if not for life.
I am not a mental health professional, so take my opinions for what they're worth. Read up on agoraphobia and see if you think it fits what you are experiencing.

there is a strain being produced by major seedbank that is (anti anxiety)...I almost put it in last run myself..girlfriend has similar experience. good luck..i think it was a moderate-high priced strain..at a medical mary site
