Default Negative effects...

Hey guys, I have obsessive compulsive diorder, meaning I worry about everything excessively. So I was wondering,

#1. Are any of you guy's ANY LESS SMART then before you smoked Marijuana?

#2. Do any of you have respitory problems and/or cancer from smoking Marijuana?

#3. Do you think If I smoke TON'S of Marijuana, and Burn TON'S of incense, that it is possible to get cancer?

Thanks guys..
Peace.

#1. Are any of you guy's ANY LESS SMART then before you smoked Marijuana?

If you are asking if marijuana kills brain cells, the answer is no. And I do I feel less smart? On the contrary, I feel much more open to what is around me, and if not smarter because of it. See Myth #8.

#2. Do any of you have respitory problems and/or cancer from smoking Marijuana?

Respitory problems can arise from smoking anything, regardless of what it is. You can do a couple things to avoid this: one, eat marijuana instead of smoking it; two, use a vaporizer; three, if you must smoke, find the highest potency you can get, it means less smoking and irritation. Regarding cancer, no you cannot get cancer, in fact, some studies suggest it might reverse and kill certain tumors. See Myth #4 for Lung Disease information, and this thread concerning lung cancer.

#3. Do you think If I smoke TON'S of Marijuana, and Burn TON'S of incense, that it is possible to get cancer?

Again, see the response to the question about this about cancer. There is no evidence that suggest you could get cancer from cannabis, but you can always take steps to reduce any doubts such as vaporization or by cooking with it. Read this thread on Cannabis & Cancer.

I have trouble remembering stuff when I'm high, but I think that's because my attention jumps around to follow tangential thoughts. I'm talking about losing the thread of what I'm talking about in the middle of a sentence and that sort of thing. The only memory loss when I'm not high is the typical stuff that happens to everyone when they get into their 50s. I often walk into a room and forget why I'm there and have to backtrack until I figure out what it was.

What was the question?

I had a career as a systems analyst. I had to keep track of huge systems and keep a picture of the complex structures in my head. That was never a problem, so I don't think marijuana affects your memory except when you are under the influence.

No. I have no problem learning new skills, topics, or retaining information. However, when I am high, it does become more difficult. Some can cope with this, others cannot. It does not ruin my memory though, and studies show that after stopping, all functions of the body return to that of a normal person.

It's like this: could you study for a test if you were drunk and remember any of it? No. But could you wake up the next day after drinking and study for the same test and still learn? Sure you could. It's no different here

From all my experiences, Marijuana doesnt make you stupider (it kills brain cells, but not enough to mess you up. (if you do it every day for years and years, you'll prolly feel some long-term effects from it) but i've been smoking weed for like 4 years, bout 5-10 times a week. Im in high 90's in my university courses, I play hockey/football and i never have a problem doing that, So I dont think that marijauna could have taken a big toll on my lungs. Since when you smoke it, You smoke like 6 bowls between like 6 ppl, so it isnt that much tar and **** going into your lungs as a cigarette.

HL hit the nail on the head. There is SOME impairment DURING the high, such that if you are trying to follow a long string of thoughts you'll probably get lost and forget your place. I find that I can't program complex new software applications WHILE I'm very high (a mild high is no problem) because debugging it often involves following a chain of steps to isolate the problem, and often I'll forget where I'm at, or end up seeing some other bug and sidetracking to fix that...

However, I smoke daily, and can find no impairment in my non-high activities. I carry a full-time job as a network administrator / software developer, and only smoke in the evenings, AFTER work. During work hours, I've already slept off the high from the night before, and I find that I can do as complex of things as I could back before college when I didn't smoke at all.

On the contrary, there are even many tasks that I find EASIER to accomplish while high. Repetitive tasks are the best, because you can get yourself into the momentum of doing them, and then your subconscious kind of takes over the task and your mind will start to wander -- you'll end up doing the work without even realizing it, and your mind will have it's own discussion with itself as it wanders about whatever topics you happen to be thinking about, all while doing the work. This is great for chores such as yard/house work, doing the dishes, laundry, etc.
