Default Tryng to take a short break

Okay so I go to my doctor asking about quiting smoking cigs without gaining weight. His answer, "Danielle, as much as I hate to say this, if you're worried about gaining weight when you quit, loose the ten lb you would gain and then quit, because it is almost impossible not to gain weight when quiting."

DAMN!! Bad answer.

But here's the deal, I'm a healthy (aside from my torched lungs) 5'7" 130 lb
I work out three times a week at the gym and walk two times a week in between the gym, my weight never ever goes below that (I just don't understand the concept of diet), but I figured if I could obstain from mary for a short time (key word short), thus removing the munchie factor (which I have always enjoyed, food just tastes soooo good), I could drop the ten lb quick and then quit smoking.

So has anyone experienced weight loss when abstaining from marijuana, after being a long term smoker? I wouldn't know because every time I quit was from pregnancy, so obviously I wasn't loosing any weight.

Thanks

You only weigh 130 Even if you gained 10 pounds you shouldn't worry, but yeah I heard that about cigarettes, since it is a stimulant and increases your metabolism most people gain weight afterwards. I can't gain weight period. I'm 5'10" and only 145 pounds, I need to gain about 40 more.

PS - I also need to quit cigarettes. Ironic, but I'm going outside to smoke one...as soon as I finish this joint

To keep on topic: I would think you might loose weight after quitting, simply because most people get the munchies after they eat. I do, but not all the time. Then again, I eat healthy munchies like fruits and vegetables.

Aww Higher I'm flattered, but you know we females, for some reason being cute and skinny makes us happy.

That's another thing, I have a habit of smoking a cig right after I smoke some mary, even if I smoke a cig then immediately go smoke a bong, I have to smoke another cig, so I guess that would count as a benefit to taking a break.

I love healthy food, but I can also inhale a bag of chips in a sitting if I'm in the zone (late night, stoned, bong to my right, clicker to my left, movie on the tube, food in hand). For some reason I can get by all day with eating fruit and salad or a sandwich when I have the munchies, but as soon as the sun sets I swear my body wants nothing to do with anything other than salty snacks.

This sucks

I smoke bud at least once every day, usually more. Occasionally I take a few days off, and when I do my appetite plummets. Suddenly eating food becomes a chore, I force myself to do it for my health but it's not something I enjoy. I don't know if your body acts like mine but if I wanted to lose weight, abstaining from the herb would be one way to do it.

However if you gained 10 lbs you would only be 140, and that doesn't sound bad for your height. You work out a lot so you're probably already healthy, so I wouldn't worry about anything up to 10 lbs.

Good luck on quitting cigs

Question You Told Your Doctor?

Burninbrooke are you talking about pot or tobbacco? If pot, you told your doctor? I never told my doctor, whom I've been with for over 15 years , that I smoke pot. She always asks if I smoke, but I say no.

There's no reason not to tell your doctor. All communications are protected by doctor-patient confidentiality.
Every doctor-patient relationship carries with it a duty on the part of the doctor or other health provider to keep patient information private and refrain from disclosing it to third parties without your consent. A doctor or medical professional who breaches this duty by disclosing confidential information, including your medical records, may be liable to you for damages for any injury (including embarrassment) you suffer from the disclosure. The duty of confidentiality may not be broken absent authorization from you to release your records to a designated third party.

There are a number of exceptions to this rule whereby a health care provider can release your records without liability. Among these are the following common scenarios:

Health insurance companies normally require patients to waive the right to confidentiality of information when submitting a claim for medical coverage.

If a patient sues a medical professional for malpractice, the patient's medical records and information may be released and used in connection with any litigation.

In certain situations, medical professionals are required to report certain kinds of patient information to authorities, such as certain communicable viruses or diseases.

Doctors generally must report suspected incidents involving evidence of child abuse or gunshot wounds.
I was concerned about the insurance aspect, so I told my doctor that I wanted to tell her something in confidence but didn't want it to be in my written record. She said that was not a problem.

She also said that doctors were so concerned about maintaining confidentiality that they hesitate to say "hello" to their patients outside the office. They don't want anyone to even know that the person is one of their patients.

Question BuzzBy

I tell my doctor everything about my personal life, that's why I get Viagra. She said I could get it because of the anti-depressants I take. Then shen doubled the dose, so I could cut them in half, because of the prescription insurance.

I just never told her.

I didn't want that, smoking pot, to become part of the depression issue.

She has always supported everything I told about my current state of mind, I just know that if she finds out I'll have to go for therarpy.

I even told her that I drink at least 6 cans of beer a day.

She told me to get a liver check twice a year, because of the Lipator and Valuim she issued to correct my Vitals'.

So I go to office and get a blood test.

Next time I'll Tell Her.

What do I tell the Fiance'?

She thinks I smoke at times, but not everyday.

Exchange your Salty Snacks from Potato Chips to ....

...something with a High Water content...

Yes, you will gain some weight from your nicotine withdrawl but you might be able to increase your metabolic level slightly at the same time as it is dropping by feeding it "hard to digest" high fiber foods.

Exchange your munchies for (you are going to hate me) celery sticks and a bag of prewashed pre cut lettuce/dalad mix that you dip in a spicy sauce (I suggest olive oil/balsamic vinegar & spices with some parmesan cheese thrown in & salt & pepper) You'll get your crunch, your salt fix, your finger food munchie AND the benefit of a vegetable that requires the body to use energy to digest it keeping the metabolism up to speed -- Cucumbers and hummus is another favorite. Toss in some Almonds (salted)...And DO use your fingers.

I think your biggest hurdle will be at work --

have you discussed using the Patch -- and if working in a smoke filled environment may effect you if you are on it?

My money is on you my dear -- I think you can do anything you set your mind too

You're my kinda gal

Hugz,

Mama Budz

maybe instead of eating a bag of chips after you get stoned, why not trying some fruits? Fill your big appetite w/ better more healthier foods so you really wont have to limit how much u eat because what you will be eating will be good for you.. Trust me there are way better foods than junk food.. When I get blazed Id much rather have an orange than chips now. All it is, is getting use to it, thats all... AS FOR the ciggs.. You'd be helluva lot better off quitting ciggs and just smoking weed.... Yeah I'm very similiar to you in the way that we both need ciggs right after we blaze, but its do-able. Whenever you see yourself doubting, or mad craving for a cig/ or a blaze just ask yourself, how much does quitting mean to you and how far are you willing to go to reach your goal... GOOD LUCK!
