You and TeufelFish are going to get along wonderfully!

He's in and out this summer off on a marine research project...but the two of you -- should be talking shop in no time.

BTW, love your sig...science does have it all (vertebrate zoology & animal behaviour '84) but I've become more of a sociologist in my old age.

There is definetely an error in the study based solely on my personal review of the anectodatal evidence -- If it were true, my IQ would be in the negative figures by now

Muggles,

You are aware that you and the thread starter are referencing the same study, right? If you demand more proof relating to the increase in IQ scores from light use, then they should demand more proof from you in regards to heavy use decreasing IQ scores.

I'm not saying that smoking pot will lead to an increase in IQ (I think IQ scores are overrated, IIRC, having a higher EQ score results in more success), but I just find it strange that you automatically accept the harms that the study found, but at the same time reject the results that weren't harmful, and were actually found to be beneficial to the users.

I did merge this thread though, he was the original starter of his thread until we realized this article had been posted before Burden of proof is on the other side though, so I concur.

The minset of society says marijuana kills braincells...if thats the case we would all be lepers. My thoughts ...yes they do kill brain cells...but i believe like in most ecosystems the weaker ones will die off first. I also believe that in most normal humans they replenish themselves if you moderate. This therory of mine is basically simple but its just a theory. And if the theory is correct this thread holds water. If you dont give your body a chance to repair itself it will continue to damage itself not only killing the weaker cells but intern killing the stronger ones as well. If intern u moderate ( 5 joints or less or whatever ) the body has a chance to replenish itself with new cells....

Any thoughts?????

I am in now way a physician or hold any degree to that effect just a personal observation of my own thinking.

Hate to break it to you, but your theory holds absolutely no water. Marijuana doesn't kill brain cells...any for that matter. And replenishing? Hmmm...check out the marijuana myths page about brain damage.

Interesting ....there have been no human studies though poor monkeys. I would believe that MJ and any other drug and or alcohol can alter the chemistry in your brain maybe even your DNA. I would also believe that anything that alters your chemistry may have damaging effects. So what you are saying is in moderation pot can make you smarter but dumber if used a lot. Hmmm somehow this thesis and what you have replied isnt holding water.

What's my theory? I haven't postulated a theory. I've provided you with scientific data and studies. Marijuana does not alter your brain chemistry, and it certainly doesn't alter your DNA. I also don't believe marijuana makes you "dumber." How would you all of a sudden lose information? I still know all the things I've always known, the only thing that's ever changed has been my perspective on things. The burden of proof is on you to provide information that marijuana (a) destroys brain cells, (b) alters DNA, and (c) makes you stupid.

Because of the necessity for sacrificing the experimental subjects in order to dissect their brains they haven't been able to find any human volunteers.
