| Hey i've smoked weed heavily for hmmm about eight years. No problems until recently where i've started having panic attacks, i.e. feel like im not breathing, and other symptoms. Started having this lower back pain and i went to the physician who perscribed me Lexapro (10mg). Im on my third day of lexapro and i've smoked weed everyday, but i feel kinda weird and jittery. I searched the web for information about mixing lexapro and pot and i've gotten mixed results. Some sites say it will do no harm mixing the two, and others say it is very harmful. Anyone here take lexapro and smoke weed daily? anyone have any advice |

| u ask ur doctor he is going to tell you that yes it is harmful and is going to pressure you to stop cuz he is going to think your depressed cuz you smoke. Look man I use to be on antidepressants also. I use to take 20mg of Prozac daily and I use to smoke with it and I was fine. Dude, just light up a bowl and see if u survive afterwards.. If your still alive, then ur straight.. If you die, my bad.. LOL jk. nothing is gonna happen, it should be fine. Just dont smoke alot. |

| Mixing any two drugs together usually results in an increase in either one or both of the drugs. For example, let's say you just had surgery and your doctor gave you some painkillers to relieve the pain after surgery. If you were to take them and then smoke you would notice an increase in the effects of one or the other (or both) of the drugs. Cannabis is non-toxic, so it can be mixed with anything out there. Just relax man, take a deep breath and enjoy it ![]()

| Like HL said, cannabis is very unlikely to cause *physical* drug interactions. However, I have experienced psychological drug interactions when on a mixture of drugs for pneumonia -- I tripped face on non-hallucinogens. I can only imagine what weed could do with an antidepressant. Be careful, you probably can't kill yourself from combining the two but it could potentially do some psychological damage if continued over a long period of time. If you notice any unwanted drug interactions, don't combine the drugs. |

| I was on lexapro and eleval at one time, I noticed I like the way I feel high without the antidepresents than when I was on them. MJ with antidepressents, I think intensify the effects though. Quote:

| Read Toxic Psychiatry or Your Drug May Be Your Problem, by Peter Breggin, or Prozac Backlash, by Joseph Glenmullen, and you'll never want to take these incredibly dangerous drugs. At best, they're like amphetamines and cocaine: you could conceivably achieve some short-term benefit for the extremely depressed, and only in conjunction with careful neurological monitoring and concomitant talk therapy, and ALWAYS discontinued after improvement is achieved. These drugs are implicated in rage attacks, insomnia, restless legs, convulsions, tardive dyskinesia, and even Alzheimer's disease. Their chemical structure is only slightly different than amphetamines. The best way I can describe their effects on "serotonin imbalances" that are speciously claimed to affect mood is that while these drugs may be selective for serotonin, serotonin is not selective in its effects on the human body (see Prozac Backlash). The new "designer" combinations are meant to affect more endocrine hormone systems--not just serotonin alone. Fun, huh? And to top it off, the drugs are routinely prescribed by non-psychiatrists and non-neurologists, are recommended routinely by nurse practitioners, community health workers, psychologists, addiction counselors, and other non-medical health care workers. They're prescribed with minimal knowledge or counseling, either on side effects or "discontinuation syndrome" nor on the root causes of the patient's distress. I went off weed and tried 'em all, the last being Paxil in 1997. Never again. Marijuana has been field tested for 3,000 years. SSRIs have been tested for fewer than thirty. You do the math. |

| Well, I'm bipolar & medicated. I take Paxil & Wellbutrin (antidepressants), Geodon (mood stabilizer) and Klonopin (sleep). Long story short, I quit smoking 'til the meds were right, then started again with no problems. |
