| TO: Supporters of marijuana policy reform FROM: Steve Fox, MPP director of government relations DATE: Thursday, April 21, 2005 SUBJECT: Urge your U.S. House member to cosponsor the "States' Rights to Medical Marijuana Act" ================================================== ==================== Important medical marijuana legislation is about to be introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the Marijuana Policy Project needs your help to secure additional support for the bill. Please visit http://www.mpp.org/frankbill to e-mail or fax a pre-written letter urging your U.S. representative to cosponsor the "States' Rights to Medical Marijuana Act," which will be introduced by U.S. Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), along with dozens of other members of Congress, on May 4. MPP has been working closely with Congressman Frank's office to add cosponsors to the bill. If passed, this legislation would end the federal government's attacks on medical marijuana patients and give states full authority to enact and implement their own medical marijuana laws without federal interference. Please take one minute to visit http://www.mpp.org/frankbill and urge your U.S. representative to support this important bill. Even if this bill does not pass through Congress, adding a large number of cosponsors to the bill will send a message to the Bush administration that many elected officials strongly oppose the federal government's interference in state medical marijuana laws ... ... and it will build momentum toward the medical marijuana amendment that the U.S. House will be voting on this summer (for the third summer in a row). Please visit http://www.mpp.org/frankbill to ask your U.S. representative to cosponsor the new medical marijuana bill. Thank you. All you have to do is click on the link and send your house member an e-mail or letter. Each and every person counts, so please it's just a click away. |

| Sent my Letter into Steve Rothman, who has voted against medical marijuana in the past and sends me letters telling me how much he supports low cost of drugs for "vets and the elderly", but nothing about the 56,000+ AIDS patients (same count of state Heroin users..hmmm), and 200,000+ cancer patients in New Jersey. In other words he supports goverment subsidies to the drug companies, that rule this state. |

| Montel Williams To Help Introduce MMJ Bill Posted by CN Staff on May 02, 2005 at 08:54:55 PT Press Release Source: U.S. Newswire Washington, D.C. -- Television talk show host Montel Williams, who uses medical marijuana to treat the debilitating pain of multiple sclerosis, will join U.S. Representatives Barney Frank (D-MA), Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), and Sam Farr (D-CA) at a Capitol Hill press conference on May 4 at 2 p.m. to introduce bipartisan legislation to protect medical marijuana patients from arrest. Also speaking will be Angel Raich, the California medical marijuana patient whose lawsuit seeking protection from federal prosecution could be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court this month, and Irvin Rosenfeld, one of seven patients who still receives a monthly supply of medical marijuana from the U.S. government under a program closed to new enrollment in 1992. After the press conference, Raich will lead a group of patients to visit members of Congress to lobby on behalf of the legislation; a leading opponent of medical marijuana will be presented with a list of patients who have died in the wake of a federal raid on their medical marijuana garden. The press is invited. WHAT: Press conference to announce introduction of the bipartisan States' Rights to Medical Marijuana Act and to preview the upcoming Hinchey Amendment to the S-S-J-C Appropriations bill, which would protect medical marijuana patients from attacks by the U.S. Justice Department. Congressional lobbying visits will follow the press conference. WHO: U.S. Reps. Barney Frank (D-MA), Maurice Hinchey (D-NY), and Sam Farr (D-CA); television talk show host Montel Williams; Supreme Court medical marijuana plaintiff Angel Raich; federally authorized medical marijuana patient Irvin Rosenfeld; and other guests, depending on availability. WHEN: Wednesday, May 4, 2005, 2 p.m. EDT. WHERE: Cannon Terrace, Cannon House Office Building, Independence Ave. and New Jersey Ave., SE. With more than 17,000 members and 150,000 e-mail subscribers nationwide, the Marijuana Policy Project is the largest marijuana policy reform organization in the United States. MPP works to minimize the harm associated with marijuana -- both the consumption of marijuana and the laws that are intended to prohibit such use. MPP believes that the greatest harm associated with marijuana is imprisonment.
