| On wednesday I went to the doc for my panic attacks and we talked for awhile she basically said that I was infact having attacks and that she noticed some depression. She put me on Paxil and gave some Klonopins until the Paxil kicks in. Right now my heart is beating a little fast but I just don't care, isn't bothering me. The dosage is supposed to be half a pill of Klonopin when I feel an attack coming but i've been taking a whole pill every morning just because I don't think thats enough. So yeah its only been 3 days for me on these meds im just curious when I should consider to start smoking again, is 2-3 weeks enough time? I'm also curious how I can get my doc to prescribe something stronger than klonopin like valiums or xanax because the klonopins are very very weak, they do almost nothing for me even on 1 pill.. 1/2 pill = nothing. |

| I can't answer your queries as to smoking marijuana in conjunction with Paxil or Klonopin, because I don't have any personal experience with this. Hopefully someone who does will be along shortly to answer your query. If I was in your position, I can tell you how I would go about it, being the experimental type, I would take it upon myself to test the interaction personally. I'm not advocating this approach, because it is potentially dangerous. I'm telling you, because if you are anything like me you will just experiment, and I wish to emphasise how cautiously any experimentation like this should be approached. Please be very very careful, your psychological and physical health is the most important thing in the world, you don't want to jeopardise it by impulsively mixing marijuana with powerful medications. I would probably smoke a very very small bowl, (less than an eight of a gram say) of a strain of marijuana that I know has been kind to me in the past. I would then sit back and observe the effects over the next few hours. This should provide a very mild high, mild enough, that if the interaction is less than pleasant, it will not be intense or longlasting, and you will know not to smoke again. If the effect is pleasant, I might very cautiously have another very small bowl after 3 or 4 hours. I would increase the amount I smoked very gradually, over a period of weeks, including many days of abstinence from marijuana. Careful monitoring of any emotional changes, with respect to how much marijuana has been consumed is a good idea, best to write your observations down in a diary of sorts. This will, over time give you an idea of any negative interactions. Different drugs affect different individuals in different ways, just because it's OK for someone else, does not mean it's OK for you. Please be very careful, and begin with tiny amounts of marijuana. I really don't think it is a good idea to take it upon yourself to double your doctor's recommended dose. I hope you've told your Dr you have doubled the dosage, so that he can take this into account in his assessments of your progress. As regards Xanax, my advice is to steer clear of it, I have seen it completely destroy the life of a friend of mine. Under the influence of this drug, she fell out a 5th storey window. She broke many bones and will live with the aftermath of chronic pain forever. It is a very nasty drug, and definitely NOT to be mixed with marijauna, IMO.

| I would be more worried about the drugs you are taking instead of the cannabis you may or may not be smoking while you are on them...

My Father just passed away a month ago, and my doctor immediately put me on Effexor, Ativan, and Ambien. I was physically ill for 2 weeks. I just saw my doctor again and I told her I am still the same, crying all the time, everyday, so she doubled my dose of Effexor. I feel a little better. Now I only cry 4 or 5 times a day. I guess that's better. When I cry, I physically shake and my heart rate increases. I've also have panic attacks, and was very near a nervous breakdown. Be honest with your doctor. Tell her what you are feeling physically and emotionally. Tell her you don't think the Klonopin is working and you would like to try Ativan, at the lowest dose. (0.5mg) You can always increase later. You don't want her thinking you are a drug seeker. Doctors always have that in the back of their mind. I wouldn't ask for Valium or Xanax. They will think drug seeker, and you wont get it. Besides, Valium isn't as effective as Ativan, and Xanax is DAMNED addictive. Stay away from that puppy. I have been using marijuana as medicine for more than a year now and that has never changed, not even since being put on the Effexor and Ativan. When I have a panic attack, I smoke some marijuana and that helps quicker than an Ativan. Since the Effexor isn't helping my depression yet, I will smoke marijuana to get in a better mood, so I can watch a comedy and maybe even laugh for a little while. I also use marijuana for pain, nausea/vomiting, and to increase appetite. It's up to you when you think you should smoke marijuana again. Personally, I never changed my habits. Was smoking before and after being prescribed the poison pills from hell. I have gone a couple days without smoking to see how I felt and I felt like **it! As soon as I smoked something I felt better. I have considered stopping the vile pills because I hate what they do to the chemicals in your brain.

Check out the thread "Taking anti-depressants and smoking marijuana." I posted a question and Mamabudz gave me a very detailed explanation. I think you should read her reply post to me too. And, I feel it worth repeating again. Stay away from Xanax. It is so dangerous. I know from personal experience. I was on Xanax before and I had 2 Grand Mal seizures and I never had a history of seizures and I have never had another one. Be careful with any anti-anxiety drug too. They can all be very addictive. As for the Klonopin, believe it or not, it is originally an anti-seizure medication and doctors started using it for anxiety. I really think you should try the lowest dose of Ativan, 0.5mg. I hope you are having a good day. ![]()
