| I went to my county health clinic today to get a test done. While I was there I browsed through some of the brochures they had. There were brochures on breast cancer, prostate cancer, flu shots, HIV, STD's, West Nile virus ... you name it. But there was something missing, I just couldn't put my finger on it. What was it? Hmm ... oh yes, then I noticed it. There was no medical information about drug addiction. There was no medical information in the county health clinic about what is probably the county's biggest health problem! I asked the nurse a question. Her answer surprised and scared me. I told her I had a friend who was struggling with a morphine addiction. I asked if he could come here to get some help. She flatly said, "no". I had to prod her for the next logical question, "where can he go? He needs help. His health is at stake." She didn't know. She suggested the police! I tell ya, I almost slapped the b*tch. Here's a nurse in a health clinic who didn't care about someones health because of her prejudices and preconceived notions about drugs and the people who get mixed up in them. Sometimes I just can't stand it anymore. | |

| I'd think that you were asking the wrong person.. A nurse does not diagnose nor recommend medical issues/solutions. A nurse follows up on what the doctor orders. Sure, the nurse has medical experience. But not to diagnose/treat/recommend. You asked a question that the nurse was not qualified to answer. You said that "his health is at stake" she offered a solution and told you to call the police. You call her a $itch and want to slap her because of her preconcieved notions. You sir, have the prejudical attitude. You believe that the nurse should have known somebody else's job. Your friend has a medical issue and you refuse to accept police help? Do you have a friend that really has that problem and his health is at stake? Call 911. Daniel |

| I can't believe you think that's normal! I didn't ask her to diagnose anything. So thank you for puttin words in my mouth. I didn't ask her to do someone else's job, so thank you for putting more words in my mouth. All I did was ask where someone like my friend can get help. I shouldn't have called her a b*tch, you got me on that one. As for my preconceived notion on whether a nurse should be concerned about someone's health without passing judgement or copping an attitude with me, yes I think she should. As for my preconceived notion on whether a nurse should know where people can get help for an addiction problem (a health issue, not a criminal one), yes I think she should. These are preconceived notions I think I'll keep. Her reaction maybe normal, but it shouldn't be. As for calling the police on someone struggling with an addiction, he needs help, not jail. | |
