| Yesterday my doctor proscribed singulair to me because of possible asthma. He is unsure if i have the asthma but im going in for surgery on my finger next friday so he wants to be sure everything is ok for the anestesia. Will it be dangerous to take the singulair and then smoke? |

That said, did the doctor peg it as being smoking-induced asthma, or from pollution, or from some type of allergy? Always err on the side of caution. It seems as though Singulair is given to mild cases, as their web page says Singulair is not for emergencies, and to keep regular asthma medication handy for severe cases. What's the reason he gave you Singulair to take? Did he notice some wheezing, or did you complain of any difficulty breathing? Pay attention to the type of smoke you are inhaling, too. Is it thick, and inhaled often - does it make you cough? Not at all? A little? Heavily? Is some of the smoke you are inhaling from tobacco smoke? If so, lay off that. If you must inhale smoke of anything, consider the 21st century option of vaporizing technology and pay close attention to the consistency and quality of the substance(s) you are intent on inhaling. Sounds like your finger surgery is coming up soon. If we don't hear from you, I hope it went well and you can report back with your observations. | |

| Without revealing too much about myself, I am a student pursuing a doctorate in the pharmaceutical sciences. If the singulair was prescribed as a simple prophylactic to ensure that you breathe normally and "comfortably" under anesthesia...you SHOULD be okay to smoke. There are few studies done on drug (prescription drug) to herbal (marijuana and all other so-called nutriceuticals), so use caution as to dosing (don't smoke a ton, especially if the smoke is harsh). In addition, in correlation with my above statement, I would advise to refrain from smoking for 24 hours prior to undergoing anesthesia. ALSO, more IMPORTANTLY...be honest with your physician about your marijuana use, whether medicinal, recreational, or both. As you may be aware, there are strict physician/patient (as well as pharmacist/patient) confidentiality laws regarding discussions between healthcare providers and their patients. In a nutshell, unless you tell them that you are planning to murder or cause physical harm to another person, they are bound by their respective ethical mores and oaths to maintain complete confidentiality. I hope this information helps you. |

| Please, for your own safety, let the person administering the anesthesia know that you use cannabis. There are probably no contraindications (possibly problems arising from the substances interacting), but the anesthesiologist will be the best source of information. |
