| well I have been smoking weed for about a year and a half ago on special occassions ... since a month ago I have been smoking regularly (about 4 times a week ) .... the thing I like to mention is that Im a schizophernic ... the problem is .. usually after smoking I feel my schizo signs are back ( paranoia , some audial hullicinations etc ) , it stays for about a day after smoking , but it tends to fade away . two days ago I smoked a joint and started hullicinating ( seeing colors , hearing abit of stuff )... do the symptoms remain ? or do they fade away ? what do you recommend I should do ? thanks ! |

I am curious what medications you are on and how long ago you had your diagnosis and the reasons why you are smoking (recreation, relaxation, or to feel better medically?) The reactions you mentioned are the same as those felt by many individuals without schizophrenia or schizo affective disorders who have "over stoned", what is referred to as Cannabis intoxication in the diagnostic manuals. If you find the feelings uncomfortable, then you need to reduce the amount you are smoking -- the reason to smoke is to feel good, remember? Now will smoking trigger a schizoid episode? That is something I cannot tell you since I am not you and do not know your triggers. I do suggest that if you are computer search savvy that you do a Yahoo search for any medications you are on + the word "cannabis". This will often bring up reports of interactions between pschiatric drugs and pot that are not usually reported in the regular patient package inserts. And it is that drug/pot interaction I would be most concerned about.

| thanks for replying guys ! well I have been diagnosed 2 years ago , I have been taking antipsychotics about a year and a half ago , I have been on 3 different kinds , and one of them was olenzapine .. anyway , I never really had an episode , I just feel paranoid and minor visual and audial hullicinations most of the time when Im not on medications , but it has never been that intense to call it an episode .. Im a minor case of schizophernia .. I smoked like 2 joints last night , and today I feel pretty messed up , paranoid , very little hullicinations . I smoke weed because it makes me feel in touch with the people around me , makes me a peaceful person , elevates my mood , I can think about spiritual aspects of life , and most importantly , Im really connected with the music I listen to . thanks again guys ! |

| Sounds like a very normal high and a very reasonable pot experience. 2 joints may have been one joint too many for you ... You should be able to shake off the "hangover" with a bit of extra sleep, drinking a bit of extra water (often dehydration is the culprit) and be sure to eat healthy foods, not junk food. | |

| i believe i am schizo too, i have never been diagnosed but i have alot of symptoms. my father also was schizo and he is now in a nursing home or something, dunno, i hardly talk to him. strangely enough he has been smoking all his life, and still smokes to this day. he seems alot better off when he is high than sober. as for myself, i have to smoke in moderation, if i try to kill a joint or some bowls i will get lots of paranoia and even panic attacks sometimes. it also makes me anti social until the high wears off. i am just fine and dandy after a couple puffs though and experience none of those negative effects, but damn i wish i could blow my mind like snoop dog 24/7 . everyone is different though, you might end up harming yourself no matter how much you smoke.Quote:
i have found that whenever i get too high, drinking alot of water or eating something will lower my high. i don't know if this is just subjective, but i have friends that tell me eating gives them a buzzkill too.

| I completely agree about dehydration causing most headaches! That is pretty much all it boils down to for me if I get a head ache. If one glass doesn't make it go away, drink 2 more glasses after that. There's no telling how much water your body may want. As for marijuana affecting schizos, I've heard that it suppresses the episodes. My friend's dad has smoked pot for years and he seems more intouch with reality when he does. I have read a few things about the connection, but damned if I don't recall well enoguh to quote any figures lol. I am under the impression that this would be harmless to your condition. I would just as a rule of thumb, smoke if it make you happy, but if it causes you trouble, simply don't do it ! Which ever choice makes you happier is the right one. Just don't smoke so much that it becomes unejoyable and dull! ![]() |
