| I like to smoke marijuana to deal with depression, anger control, and swinging emotions. I have been smoking on and off due to legal reasons for a few years now. This next part is going to sound even stranger. For the first 20 minutes or so that I'm high I feel different parts of my body twitching rapidly, either almost all at once, or one after another. I know this is real because I see it when I look in the mirror sometimes. This is very frightening to me and makes me feel like a maniac. I'm sharing this because I want to see if anyone else out there gets the same thing as me, and if they got over it. I even read the anxiety attack posts and it isn't helping me because when this twitching happens there is no way to stop it. It only stops after the initial effects of cannabis weaken, which are the effects I crave the most. Due to the twitching it's hard to enjoy them though... |

| When I'm high and I smoke menthol cigarettes (I don't smoke cigarettes regularly), my whole body shakes. All of my muscles tighten. It's an incredible rush, and I actually kind of enjoy it. I think it happens just because there is an overload of substance going into my body. Like, if my body could talk, it'd ask for some fresh air. ![]() I don't have the slightest clue what could be causing your problem, but I think if you just take steps to relax while you're smoking, it could really help. A lot of times, if I'm uncomfortable or whatever, weird things will happen. (For instance, the first couple times I smoked with my boyfriend right after we just met, I was so nervous around him that I'd get very weird highs.) But if you try smoking with people you're super-comfortable with, or alone, and just relax, listen to music, and chill out for a while, you'll be alright. You could also try taking a couple aspirin with a little alcohol - that always relaxes me when I smoke. |

| I suspect it's something like hiccups, where parts of your nervous system get temporarily out of sync. I've had it happen several times, sometimes high on marijuana and sometimes not. I'll be sitting quietly, reading a book or watching TV, and my triceps muscle will start to contract and relax at random. If I move around a little it stops. I've had the same thing happen with other muscles in my arms, legs, chest, and face. Does this sound similar to what's happening to you?

| Muscle twitching, or motor tics, could be the result of your dopamine levels being too high, similar to Tourette's syndrome. This used to happen to me when I got really stoned when I was a teenager. For some reason it went away when I got into my 20s. You could try taking Vitamin B1 - this seems to have a slight calming effect on the nervous system. Another thing you could try is exercising before you smoke - this might help lower your dopamine levels. I believe that the amino acid Taurine also has a calming effect on the nervous system and could reduce the twitching. |

| Dopamine is natural happiness, right? xD The neurotransmitters or something react to it and you feel happy, calm, relaxed, ect. When I'm 'high' I'm usually very tence and on the occasion very paranoid. And then when I'm stoned I mellow out and feel realy relaxed... But I woulden't call it happy or calm. O_o; What exactly is dopamine and how does it effect the brain?

| Smoking sativa dominent strains seems to increase the possibility of twitching. I've come to this conclusion because I have been smoking daily for the past 2 weeks. The first bag I got was fluffy and gave me a more "heady" high (you actually feel high, not stoned). This weed was impossible not to twitch on. The second bag I got was different bud. This bag was extremely dense and more hairier then the previous bag. It gave me a very relaxed, sleepy, hungry high associated with indicas. The twitching was greatly minimized, sometimes nonexistent! After reading about strains on here, I've come to the conclusion that the first was sativa dominent and the second was more on the indica side. For all of you with the same problem, try smoking an indica batch of bud. This was my experience. |
