Default Depersonalization

Ok I hope nobody will rip my head off for asking this question, I mean when going through depersonalization, what exactly is it like. Is it like when you look at your head, it would turn into a plane for example, or when your walking down the street, it feels like your walking on clouds but your actually walking on the sidewalk. Just curious.

In terms of marijuana? I don't think marijuana has the property of depersonalization. That would be more in the area of hallucinogins, mainly the off-topic fungus.

Check out this site though, and read the personal stories:

I was doing more reading and one of the pages I read, it said smoking cannabis can cause it. But again from my original post, if thats what it does, then I dont have it.

It seems to me that depersonalization is a state of consciousness in which you realize that what you normally think of as your "self" is simply one of many possible mental constructs. As a Buddhist I welcome this because Buddhism teaches that "self" is ephemeral, a set of ideas about who you are that are reinforced to the point of being beliefs. To stand outside of that and to see it for what it is opens up a world of possibilities. Instead of seeing "self" as immutable it becomes flexible, something you can mold to suit your goals rather than something you're stuck with.

Depersonalization can be scary if you're really attached to seeing the world in one particular way, but if you see it as one of the many states of consciousness that are available you can slide in and out of it without any problems. Being stuck in any one state of consciousness gets old quickly. That's why human beings have a built-in desire to change their state of consciousness from time to time.

lol damn didnt really understood exactly what you meant but from what I read from that website, it seems like people are starting to see things not from cannabis smoking of course but it seems that there mind is not in reality. It is a scary thought and at first I thought I was going through it for the stupidest reason but then I realized that I dont see things nor feel like Im walking in darkness.

ill give you some info

Quote:
Depersonalization : A frightening and/or disturbing experience of not being within one's own body or of being in immediate danger of vanishing/separating from reality – often described as the sensation of living inside a dream. Although cognitive functioning remains intact, the sufferers feel disconnected from their sense of self and often interpret it “as if I am losing my mind.”
“ My hands feel like they're made of paper, or like they belong to someone else.” “My own face in a mirror seems foreign, like I have never really seen it before this moment…” “I cannot feel my body, not truly numb, but it is as if I have disappeared into myself, beyond my own flesh and blood…”
“Sometimes I literally wonder if I am already dead and existing as a ghost…it feels like my soul is trying to leave its shell and I am fighting with all my strength to hold it inside this body. I don't know if I'm dreaming or awake; I must be going insane…to feel my self wafting away…I know it is only a matter of time…”

Derealization : A state of consciousness that creates a sense of detachment from all environments, fogginess, as if a plate of glass is in between the mind and the physical world. Any concentration requires tremendous effort, and the harder the sufferer tries to focus, the more disconnected they become. Often including feelings of déjà vu or jamais vu. Familiar places look alien, bizarre, and surreal – as if they are part of a Salvador Dali painting. In fact, the more familiar the surrounding, the more foreign it seems to be.
I had it for about a week or 2. Very scary. Do you have obsessive compulsive disorder?

its funny this thread's come along actually. i've recently had various bloodtests done and been talking to my gp because i've been feeling very...um...weird. specifically i've been worried abut degenerative brain disease (symptomatically) but recently i've come to pretty much the same conclusion that buzzby's written above. i just figured my brain's only recently began forming itself into my adult mind , and has perhaps lost some of the concrete perception/sensation i have learnt of and expected since a child. that and five years of pretty constant, heavy dope useage (aye, i was a 12y/o toker ) plus weekendly excursions into various off-topics since about fourteen can perhaps explain the weirdness.

i'd ask, while i'm on the subject, if people experience any tracers in normal/sober life and other distinctly off-topic hallucinogenic fractals in there vision (sometimes like migraine auras without the headaches)? i'm just trying to sort out what's normal and what aint at the mo. the brain's a ****ing strange thing...wish i'd never got involved with the bastard

omg! that's my experience of life at the mo to a t! i'll be sitting in college and focusing on one thing and the rest shifts in and out of focus and 'fogs up.'

also, the concentration thing was the reason i was worried about degenerative diseases. with a certain memory i'll know the feel of it, even what it is about/is but the more i think about it the less distinct it becomes. damn...i'm gona run my head under a tap for a bit
