| I just needed to know if this could be a problem... Im not a very heavy smoker, but I think that my lips actually turn blue. About a year ago when we were all just hanging out stoned, my friends said that my lips were blue but I thought they were just trying to freak me out. But 2 nights ago it happened again, and from 5 different people. But what was even weirder was that the blueness came and went. Do you think that it could be due to a lack oxygen, or even that I could have an allergic reaction? |

| Never heard of getting blue lips from smoking. Blue lips is usually a sign of not getting enough oxygen. Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

| It sounds like symptoms of a more serious problem. Blue lips are a sign that you aren't releasing enough oxygen into your bloodstream. It could be caused by any number of things. See a doctor! |

| I'm curious. You report that a bunch of other people told you your lips were blue. Did you look in a mirror and confirm it one way or the other? It just seems odd to me that you "think" your lips turn blue and don't know if your lips turn blue. If you happen to be blind, please excuse the question.

| Do you also smoke cigarettes? Cyanosis is, as others have said, due to lack of oxygen in the affected tissue. It would be strange if this were related to marijuana considering everything I've read suggests it's not only a vasodilater (expands blood vessels - think redness of the eyes) but a bronchodilator (expands the bronchi, increasing oxygen absorption) and so should actually prevent such an occurance. Cigarettes have a more or less antagonistic effect to marijuana (e.g. vaso and bronchoconstriction). In any case, GO SEE A DOCTOR. This is one of those things that might be nothing (most probable) or might be something. Best just to make an appointment and find out. For a list of things it could be, http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/sym/blue_lips.htm is a good resource. |
