Does anyone know of any information relating to marijuana and its effects on blood pressure? I can find lots of info that says it does lower blood pressure, but the information is not very detailed and almost always seems to be related to glaucoma. As someone who suffers from high blood pressure it seems like vaporized marijuana would be a good alternative to other more risky blood pressure medicines. I am also interested in seeing if marijuana for bloodpressure relief could be classified as medical marijuana in any states. Any info would be greatly appreciated. ![]()

well, i found this: : Myth: Pot causes high blood pressure According to the NAS, the effects of marijuana on blood pressure are complex, depending on dose, administration, and posture.(7) Marijuana often produces a temporary, moderate increase in blood pressure immediately after ingestion; however, heavy chronic doses may slightly depress blood pressure instead. One common reaction is to cause decreased blood pressure while standing and increased blood pressure while lying down, causing people to faint if they stand up too quickly. There is no evidence that pot use causes persisting hypertension or heart disease; some users even claim that it helps them control hypertension by reducing stress. One thing THC does do is to increase pulse rates for about an hour. This is not generally harmful, since exercise does the same thing, but it may cause problems to people with pre-existing heart disease. Chronic users may develop a tolerance to this and other cardiovascular reactions." http://paranoia.lycaeum.org/marijuan...gy.html#myth15 that's all i found though, as i'm far too lazy to do more than a brief google search... good luck finding more stuff, though

Well, I am answering my own question but thought I would post simply because I think it is worth while. I am somewhat surprised however at the lack of response to this thread considering this is the medical part of this forum! Anyways... The best information I have found so far actually came from a link on this site: Cannabis Research - Cardiovascular section. http://www.druglibrary.org/crl/cardi...ar/default.htm There seem to be several studies relating to hypertension and the affects cannabis has on it. After reading through several of the experiments it deffinitly seems that there is promise for Marijuana to be turned into a natural alternative to other blood pressure medicines. Of course this would require selective breeding of strains to create a plant with high quantities of certain cannabinoids( CB1 seems to be quite important). It also appears that most of these test were performed on rats and not humans, which is somewhat disapointing(if there are any researchers who need human test subjects to study hypertension sign me up!)but aside from that most of the experiments seemed very promising. I certainly hope that the DEA and other government oranizations/officials will admit to marijuana's medical potential and allow further research and hopefully allow it to be legally perscribed. In the mean time I'll still be burnin.. I hope someone finds this information usefull.
