| The appetite stimulation of cannabis is effected through the incentive and rewarding properties of foods and not by a reduction of the blood sugar level. It is caused by the activation of the CB1 receptor. Interestingly, there is research into anti-obesity drugs by developing a CB1 receptor antagonist.

| When THC enters your blood stream, it passes through your brain locking onto cannabinoid receptors. One of the parts of your brain called the hypothalamus contains a lot of cannabinoid receptors. The hypothalamus is responsible for apetite, hormonal levels and sexual behavior. Once it is stimulated by THC, these aspects are also stimulated, including apetite. |

| You don't actually need to eat more when you're high. In fact, a few studies have shown that you gain more weight when you eat high as opposed to eating the same amount of calories sober. So it could be that marijuana slows down your metabolism. You can read about that in "Marijuana a new look at the scientific evidence" or "Mind-altering drugs" both by Mitch Earlywine.
